I think he's just kidding. Isn't it obvious by the way he's using the term "gorgeous" vs. using something conventional such as "good looking" or "handsome."

He could've been joking because he's not goodlooking (or doesn't think he is), so he thought she would get the joke.

Or, he IS a good looking guy who has more to offer and wants women to like him for more than just his looks. You know, that women human beings do.

Either way, it was off-handed and not at all an indication of narcisism (sp). As one poster said, he was he was a conceited narcisist, he would use that to his advantage instead of using that to rule out women.

Maybe he has lost a lot of weight. Sometimes the effect of that is to cause a person to constantly be amazed by themselves, rightly so, and to overly enjoy how much better they look.

Update for anyone who is curious: my sister went on a few more dates with him but ultimately called it quits. She said he didn't really do anything else vain-seeming, except that he has a sepia-tone framed photo of himself with a dog on his desk at work. My sister asked the dog's name, and he said he didn't know.
