What do people think of the griddle feature on these high end ranges?
I heard that after first use, it looks dirty, like a seasoned pan. What about the grill feature. Worth it? |
Hate the Grill feature. It's impossible to clean and takes longer to heat up than a pan. We used it twice. |
|
Thanks.
Do you have the griddle feature?- |
| Not only are Viking and SubZero very high maintenance, commercial ovens and ranges are fire hazards. They get MUCH hotter than typical home appliances and home building codes don't take this into consideration . Don't install one unless you hire a contractor who can upgrade cabinets and drywall adjoining the oven/range to improve fire safety. |
American made is not an advantage. German-made is usually better quality... |
Sorry it should have said griddle. Yes we have it on our Wolf 48". I don't like it at all. |

Anyone have a Bluestar or Ilve range? Pros/cons?
Dwarf about a 48' v 36'. I won't use that many burners but need the bigger stove. And wouldn't a potential buyer expect a large range? (House is worth 1.4m) Thanks |
We love our subzero and it definitely keeps food fresher. Vegetables and fruits last longer. |

I guess I'm the outlier here. We re-did our barely over $1 M house in McLean (bought under $1M, hope to sell a little over it), knowing we might move in 5 years (and we are this summer), but also knowing we wanted to enjoy the kitchen and entertain a lot while we were here. We have the 48 inch wolf stove with griddle. GE Cafe fridge and dishwasher and Sharp Microwave drawer.
We love our Wolf, and we love, love love our griddle. Use it almost every day. We have three kids - and can make so many dinners (grilled cheese sandwiches, grilled veggies, fried eggs, pancakes and quesadillas) for all three of them within 5 minutes. You can learn how to clean it from a YouTube video. They use white vinegar and a scrubber. I don't know if we'll get all the money back, but it has been great to use convection oven, small oven and griddle in the meantime. We had a few issues with it at the beginning but the customer service was pretty good and they extended the warranty to cover any future problems. I will probably put a Wolf in our new house if/when I renovate it. |
| We looked in McLean ($1.2M-$1.3M range) for the past year, saw ~30 homes and NONE had subzero or wolf/viking quality appliances. Did we expect above average, yes. Did we expect luxury, no. |
What brands did they have? |
Do you like the GE Café fridge? Thinking about it ..especially for the coffee feature. |
|
I like it - but ours is a bit older, circa 2014 so it doesn't make coffee. It does make hot water for tea and my dad loves that feature.

When we redo our kitchen, I'm expecting to pick up a blue star. They're designed to suit wok cooking extremely well. |
I *love* my Bluestar. Open burners actually do increase functionality of a gas range, and the ability to use a round bottom wok without a ring is great. Plus, if you get the 36" you can fit a full-size sheet pan in, which is great for baking and so many other things. I will say, we got the model with the interchangeable griddle and grill, and really don't use it too much. We only had space for a six burner, 36", and I've found I'm unwilling to sacrifice two burners to keep the griddle up at all times. It's really cumbersome to keep moving it on and off. Not that I often use more than four burners at a time, but I like the extra space. If we had done the 48", the griddle would have been great. |
