New Aftercare Provider at Lafayette

I'm not sure how they were selected, but they are clearly not up to the task and their problems are just starting.

Is anyone happy with the CLS aftercare at Lafayette? Looking for other opinions.

It has met my expectations (which were admittedly low). It is what it is... aftercare not enrichment

NP here.

I have pretty low expectations. I really just want a place for them to do homework and play until we can pick them up. On that front, so far so good.

That said, the kids hate it. I'm sure most of that is the change and, from what I've been told, the heavy hand the admins are using to enforce the changes. The most consistent objection is the vests they have to wear when outside. I saw them today and they are ridiculous; at best they are reminders for kids not to stray to far and at worst they are signals to predators that these kids are a part of a loosely supervised group. My kids also complain that they are hot and smell bad.

All of that, and there is no snack. For the amount we're paying, they should be able to go to Costco and get some snacks.

Hopefully, these get straightened out. It's only been a week, so I'm inclined to give them a chance. If we're still having this conversation in a month, then I'll start to worry. This is our last year there, so I'm not going to worry too much and I would encourage others who share these concerns to contact Dr. Broquard if the problems persist

Good points. Also pick up is a mess (under the guise of safety). Unfortunately the outside vendor model is not conducive to improving it.

Why did Dr. B get rid of the previous aftercare provider? It seems she had a problem with them from the beginning, e.g. deciding not to give them a dedicated space after the renovation when there was one before the renovation, etc. Is it simply that they were the provider before her tenure and therefore not her choice?

In many contexts, she has felt challenged when groups of parents were in a position to question her. I think she didn't like the fact that parents, and not her, had control over the previous provider.

Her stated reason was that they did not serve enough children. But if that was really the problem, CLS could have come in as a supplemental provider, like at Murch.

Dealing with 2 (or more) providers is a hassle.

I have so much sympathy for this principal -- there's a group of parents who will never be satisfied.

Questioning why she got rid of an aftercare provider that most parents, and all students, were happy with is a legitimate question. I have been neutral regarding the Principal but I am starting to wonder if there may be some truth to her issues with control and inability to listen to the Lafayette community.

LAP refused to expand, there was a huge waitlist and space was not an issue.

The control issues are legit questions but LAPs screwups shouldn't be forgotten.

I was shocked at the coldness and disorganization around aftercare pick up. I felt like I was picking my four year old up from prison with all the lines and waits and radio calls and jerseys.

This is our first year at layfayette and the coldness of the drop off - they just whisked the kids away, didn't even let parents accompany them to their room and unpack their supplies - and the pick up has me very concerned that we made a bad choice.

I'll take a breadth and hope it gets better next week.

My kids weren't happy with LAP.
