Our principal gets dinner for us and we go out with a partner. He gives us a map with each kid's house/apt marked. Parents will call if they know they won't be home. Takes about 2 hours. Everyone goes at the same time. We can come in later the next day and don't have a ton of meetings.

I love it and so do most of my colleagues. It's really fun to see the kids and make a connection, even for just 5 minutes.

If we were an AAP school or immersion, I don't think we could do it. Kids would live too far.

Do you have Open House too? We do both and there is not a lot of time to prepare for Open House Thursday. Of course we have a full day on Friday to work. I'd rather have Open House Friday and the full day in my room Thursday.

They never do it on Friday because it used to be labor day weekend before school started and a lot of people go away for a long weekend.

Ours was always on the Friday before Labor Day and was well attended. Now it is the Friday before school begins. I wish it was on Thursday.

What would be the benefit of Thursday? Friday would give me more time to be "ready" for Open House.. I may be pressed to be ready, but I'll get done what I can.

Op here. We have an open house Friday in the morning, which I can't attend. Hope they mail letters this week.

Most of the schools post the class list a few days before- like ours has (and they emailed us to let us know to look for it prior to Open House). That is odd that some schools have to log-in to get their teacher- not even their class list.

I was being 100% selfish and jealous when I said I wish it was Thursday after seeing others had it that day. I am also a teacher and always have a conflict on Friday with my own school with our meetings or open house. One year I would like to be able to go with my own kids and I could take a half day if it was on Thursday. Maybe next year!

we got our placement letter for three kids on Saturday. I was shocked because open house is not until Thursday.

We got ours too- that is strange that other FCPS schools don't list classes due to "security issues" really? so it's so gangster in our community with 1-3M homes??

We do not find out until the day of the Open House.

The open house/PTA party is later that day, and kids can see what other kids are in their classes.

This is the VA public schools forum, not the private schools forum.

Centreville Elementary does this. They are coming around Thursday afternoon/early evening.

My friends are at Virginia Run and they do this too. So nice. Must be a Centreville thing.

Our school sends an email with just the teachers name, not a class list. Meh.

The parents in our school circulate a signup genius for each grade so parents can "sign up" under the teacher with their child's name. Based upon how many people do the sign up, we usually know about 80% of the class list before Open House.

Orange Hunt made stops around the neighborhood today. They came around in buses, but not with classroom lists. Those were mailed out and we go in to Open House on Thursday.

Agree.

Clearly the administration doesn't want the parents to know 1) is Suzie with her friend 2) class size. It disarms a few days/ weeks until the parents gather that information. My take- administration is weak and needs to hide as long as they can behind "safety."

A parent in our child's grade level at APS does a Google spreadsheet every year and we circulate the link for parents to add their kids once placement letters are sent.

We live in Centreville too, and our kids go to CP. I have friends that go to your school and post pics of this meeting every year. I think it is awesome!!!
