Our principal gets dinner for us and we go out with a partner. He gives us a map with each kid's house/apt marked. Parents will call if they know they won't be home. Takes about 2 hours. Everyone goes at the same time. We can come in later the next day and don't have a ton of meetings.

I love it and so do most of my colleagues. It's really fun to see the kids and make a connection, even for just 5 minutes.

If we were an AAP school or immersion, I don't think we could do it. Kids would live too far. [/quote]

Do you have Open House too? We do both and there is not a lot of time to prepare for Open House Thursday. Of course we have a full day on Friday to work. I'd rather have Open House Friday and the full day in my room Thursday.[/quote]

They never do it on Friday because it used to be labor day weekend before school started and a lot of people go away for a long weekend. [/quote]

What would be the benefit of Thursday? Friday would give me more time to be "ready" for Open House.. I may be pressed to be ready, but I'll get done what I can.[/quote]
