Mouth sores towards the end of the flu?

I was thinking canker sores, too, until I looked at the images of HF&M in the mouth:

HFM is the worst, OP. Sorry. I alternated Tylenol and Advil every 3-4 hrs. There is also a mouth rinse you can do too but I can't remember the ingredients. Should be easy to google.

Good luck. Hope it resolves soon.

Op here: My sons doctor says my son doesn't have HFMD. He thinks we both picked up some kind of virus. I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow for myself. Has anyone contacted hfmd without your child getting it?

Sort of. HFM has no/mild symptoms in many cases, especially on repeat exposure. Also, adults are typically immune to most strains (there are 30+), but if you get HFM, it tends to be way worse than in kids. My DH once got a HORRIBLE case about a week after we noticed our DD had a few spots on one foot... we actually thought they were bug bites until DH's diagnosis. DD never had a fever or complained about feeling ill (was only 1.5 though, so we wouldn't have known if she was just a little sore or whatever).

FWIW, spots tends to appear post-fever/other symptoms, so it could definitely be that if it seems to be coming at the end of the "flu" for you. (Also, you don't have the real flu right now, there are basically 0 cases in DC during the summer; on the other hand, this month is literally the height of HFM in DC this year per Children's.) The good news is that, if it's HFM, it will just go away. You don't need any treatment. It's just a relatively benign virus that is annoyingly painful if you're unlucky enough to get mouth/throat sores.

Op here: The doctor wasn't entirely sure if its hfmd or herpes. She put me on antibiotics and Benadryl.

That picture also looks just like canker sores, which are viral and can appear after being sick. Just like how they've determined pink eye is often viral and shows up after a cold, etc.

Swish a mix of maalox and Benadryl. You can look up "magic mouthwash" online. Oral B also makes a mouthwash for mouth sores that helps. My son gets chronic mouth sores (tested for everything), and this mix helps.

There is HFM going around that manifests only as sores in the mouth. It's called herpangina. My seven-month-old has it and it is pure misery. Her only symptoms are high fever, the sores, and a REALLY sore throat. And crankiness because who wouldn't.

Hope you feel better soon.

If it's herpes of the mouth, the fact that you were sick would easily bring it on because your immune system has been fighting the flu, creating a pathway or weakness for the virus to come out and manifest. That's why they're called cold sores--because when you get a cold, it's the same thing. Immune system compromised, sores come out. It's really not a big deal but a prescription can ease your pain really quickly.

Did you miss the part where I said I no longer have insurance?

No need to be rude, OP - the PP was taking the time to try to be helpful to you. Geez.

My kids had this a while back. Pretty painful and only in the mouth.
