| Anyone else experience this? Or maybe it has something to do with the electric toothbrush I started using right before the flu started. |
| Sounds like hand, foot and mouth disease. |
I do have a toddler but it's only in my mouth. I've had flu like symptoms for the last week. My son has been fine. |
| My adult son had terrible mouth sores from herpes virus. Inside the mouth. He couldn't eat, it was terrible. |
|
I was going to say could be an initial case of HSV 1
|
| It's not flu season...so unlikely it was the flu. |
You have cold sores that were exacerbated by being sick. You probably didn't have the flu. See your doctor and get some abreva for your cold sores. |
If the sores are in her mouth then it's not cold sores. Cold sores are on the lips. |
You're 100% wrong and this can be verified by a simple internet search. Cold sores are caused by the Herpes virus. This virus can cause sores in the mouth, on the lips, face, tongue, and even hands. All it needs is a way into your skin. |

I looked up my non-professional theory and it seems sound. Your immune system may have been compromised by flu and it's caused canker sores.
There are a number of things both serious and, usually not at all serious, that can cause canker sores. Obviously, mouth sores on or near your lips indicates a viral infection like herpes simplex. I had a terrible terrible stomach bug one year and immediately moved to pneumonia afterward-- it's pretty awful some of the things that can happen when your immune system is down. |
That sounds like it. I also think I was too rough with my electric toothbrush right before the flu started. I had stomach cramps for a week before getting the flu. I still get cold chills. My mouth hurts like hell. Unfortunately we're in between insurance right now. I may go to cvs clinic if it gets really bad. I've got a few tiny white dots on my toungue and my gums are inflamed. I also have a white sore on the side of my lips. |

Some people here are saying herpes simplex- everyone I know who has had herpes simplex has had cold sores in the outside if their mouth. My sense (unverified) is that if you are not in excruciating pain with some significant swelling, it's probably canker sores, not herpes in your mouth. The flu can do all kinds of things including changing your pH--it could be thrush. Really, if it's anymore than small canker sores, you need to go to the doctor. |
Yup, hand foot n mouth. Sorry
|
pp here - again- if it's a sore on the outside of your mouth it's most likely viral. When you say the "side of your lips," I can't tell if you mean inside your mouth or outside. If it's a sore in the outside you can get something over the counter for cold sores and see if it helps. If it's inside, I would start with over the counter canker sore meds to help with pain and see if things improve over the next day or two. If not, you need to see a doctor. I don't think it's from your toothbrush. |
