HFM is the worst, OP. Sorry. I alternated Tylenol and Advil every 3-4 hrs. There is also a mouth rinse you can do too but I can't remember the ingredients. Should be easy to google. Good luck. Hope it resolves soon.
Op here: My sons doctor says my son doesn't have HFMD. He thinks we both picked up some kind of virus. I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow for myself. Has anyone contacted hfmd without your child getting it?
Sort of. HFM has no/mild symptoms in many cases, especially on repeat exposure. Also, adults are typically immune to most strains (there are 30+), but if you get HFM, it tends to be way worse than in kids. My DH once got a HORRIBLE case about a week after we noticed our DD had a few spots on one foot... we actually thought they were bug bites until DH's diagnosis. DD never had a fever or complained about feeling ill (was only 1.5 though, so we wouldn't have known if she was just a little sore or whatever). FWIW, spots tends to appear post-fever/other symptoms, so it could definitely be that if it seems to be coming at the end of the "flu" for you. (Also, you don't have the real flu right now, there are basically 0 cases in DC during the summer; on the other hand, this month is literally the height of HFM in DC this year per Children's.) The good news is that, if it's HFM, it will just go away. You don't need any treatment. It's just a relatively benign virus that is annoyingly painful if you're unlucky enough to get mouth/throat sores.
