| Ok, so the "if you have to ask..." and the subsequent "you can't afford it" comments were different posters? It's funny if it's just "if you have to ask..." I just had to say something after seeing the "you can't afford it" comment being incorrectly used 2x in one day. |
|
Oh puh-lease everybody, there's an old phrase "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." I saw someone posted "If you have to ask..." and I thought it would be amusing to follow up and finish it like the old phrase.
There was NO DEEP MEANING to any of it. Lighten up! Sigh.... |
PP again. But what do I know about humor. I just made a ref to Anchorman, and I'm also the poster who set the "dicfour" bait in the jockstrap thread. Teehee. No, I'm not a 14 year old boy. That's just my immature sense of humor
|
This is how one humorless person can suck all the fun out of a thread.... |
Frankly, the thread was getting a little tired anyway. Everyone chiming in things that come in three's. We can do better, DCUM! |
|
OP, in all seriousness, why don't you go on as many open houses as you can. I admit, when I first came to DCUM, I got caught up in the hype of the 'Big 3'. I went to the open houses, & yes, lovely landscaping, nice facilities, & a good curriculum. But, most importantly, I was able to find curriculums just as good, some even better, than those at the Big 3. In the end, when applying, MY Big 3 did not consist of any of the so-called Big 3 . I honestly believe that the "Big 3" was something created right here on DCUM, & any intelligent, free-thinking individual will look at all options, & determine their own Big 3. Your child will thrive wherever you decide to send them. And, HOW your child performs in that selected school will determine where they end up, not WHERE they went to school.
Good luck. |
| The op didn't ask for all of your opinions as to why she shouldn't go to a big 3 or why others are just as good! She asked a simple question. The Big 3 are: GDS, Sidwell, and Cathedral schools (Beauvoir, NCS, or St. Albans) |
No, what the OP needs to do is research, & determine her OWN Big 3. Just cause DCUM deemed certain schools the Big3, doesn't make it so. It's only the opinion of a small community. Come outside your box, already! |
Exactly. When you talk about the Ivy League, you don't hear all these people clamoring about how Stanford, MIT and Duke are great schools, too. The Big 3 is a group of private schools. It has a distinct membership -- Sidwell, GDS and the Cathedral schools. You don't need to send your kid there if they're not the right 'fit'. It's just a term, fellas. |
There is no OWN Big 3. |
No, OP did not ask for our opinions. But the PP who stated, "I honestly believe that the 'Big 3' was something created right here on DCUM. . . " was right on target. Does this so called Big 3 concept really exist? Google searches mention Harvard, Yale, and Princeton - not GDS, Sidwell, and the Cathedral schools. |
| EXACTLY! One size does NOT fit all! |
OH, so now you're in the business of telling others what their definition of the Big 3 should be??? Please... |
Is Google the authority now? Why does everyone get so uptight by the fact that some group, fine call it DCUM, has created a term for three schools in particular: The Big 3. Urbanbaby unapologetically calls a group of 8-9 schools TT (Top tier). They list them by name and there is no disagreement. Then they have a set list for second tier and third tier. Remarkably, everyone falls in line about these schools. Here, we're not even saying they are the BEST. We are saying that these are the three schools people are referring to when they use the term Big 3. Big could mean Big fat losers, or Big unwarranted attitudes, or Big Bows, for God's sake. Stop trying to rewrite history and pretend the term refers to nothing. |
WOW, sounds like an overly sensitive parent with a child at one of the "BIG 3". It's sad that some folks need labels to define who they are. |
