No. You just declare which primary when you get to the poll. Can only vote in one - D or R.

Northam voted as a Republican - for George W Bush in 2000 & 2004. Is this possible?

Perriello has waffled on abortion, gun control and gay rights when it suits him. No thanks.

Yes, he absolutely did. See http://bluevirginia.us/2017/04/concern-ralph-northam-june-13-will-vote-tom-perriello

^ I can't believe Perriello hasn't used this as a campaign issue.

I think he thinks that it's beneath him. Also, I bet it's part of not wanting to alienate Republicans. Northam is so conservative, though, that he's been courted many times by the Republican Party to switch sides. He did not really come out against Trump the way Perriello has from the beginning.

I'm a Republican....could you share your thinking? I'm thinking of voting in the D primary for Northam because Perrillo would be a disaster, and I could live with Northam. (So, I'm really voting for NOT Perrillo.) On the other hand, Northam could definitely best Gillespie in the general, while Perrillo would be a long shot. What to do? What to do?

He would have if he could have, but that would have led to all-NRA/Stupak, all the time, from Northam. That would have been the MAD switch, except it wouldn't have been mutual - whoever pulls that trigger first loses.

Northam. But, I will support the Dem regardless

Perriello, but I will support the Dem candidate regardless.

Yeah, that's why he took the lead in the fight against transvaginal ultrasounds.

Northam is ex-military, and that makes Rs salivate, especially when their own party is such a horror show. Northam is not one of theirs. And the fact that he voted for Bush (also a horror show) more than ten years ago and admitted it should tell you something about his learning curve and his integrity.

I don't think Virginia is every going to have a governor who's as liberal as I am. But I think we can have a strongly principled one with experience handling practical matters, and that's not Perriello.

Truly I can't reconcile the GWB votes and the flyer Northam sent saying he is "the progressive choice". Not buying the PPs argument about this. Neither is great but Perriello is stonger on climate issues and part of the future of the Democratic Party. Either way, we must avoid Ed Gillespie.

Perriello can't beat Gillespie.

I'm probably more politically aligned with Perrielo, but I voted for Northam because I think he'll have an easier time winning and might actually be able to get stuff done. I think the R legislature would hamstring everything Periello tried to do. Northam knows the VA political machine better and I'm a pragmatist.
