"Don't tread on me" flag. Is there any objectionable connotation to it? (as with Confederate flag)

Do it. The flag is a great symbol of our history from the revolution. It should not be known as a symbol of the tea party. Restore it to a symbol that everyone can be proud of.

The flag was a great symbol. DH got a Don't Tread on Me T-shirt 10 years ago, and loved it. And we are solidly NOVA liberals.

Sadly, the tea party co-opted it and Trumpkins started waiving it at rallies. So, if you fly it, the vast majority of people will assume you are alt-right. Now if you are alt-right, that may work for you. If you lived in my neighborhood, I would be polite (certainly no bricks) but I would be distant. We have a lot of immigrant friends and neighbors, and it would send the message that you are a gun toting, racist redneck. It's sad the Don't Tread On Me flag has sunk so far so fast. DH has hung onto his shirt, but would never wear it now.

Should it be this way, given the flag's history? Nope. But it is. So I's think before I flew it in NoVA.

Why would a liberal fly it in NoVA? You've got nothing to complain about.

If it was flown TOGETHER with a DC flag in a DC neighborhood, I wonder if this flag would be seen differently?

A very highly educated neighborhood might think you were clear. But in a city that went 4% to Trump, you probably risk a drive by shooting.

Um, 96% Clinton was the HIGHEST of ANY place in the country.

It's the ultimate hypocrisy that the Tea Party wants to get rid of government interference, except when it comes to DC statehood and home rule.

They're not capable of understanding that. It's the same group of people that scream for no government interference expect if it comes to women's health, human rights, who you sleep with, who you want to marry, etc.

+1 and medicare /s.

That flag says 'I'm a gun-toting, anti-choice, closed minded, uneducated redneck - and I'm proud of it'. That's what it says to me, anyway. I have a visceral reaction when I see that flag.

It's definitely associated with the tea party and racist right-wing trash now, but ironically I've seen the license plates and stickers on cars driven by 20-something, minority men with riced-up cars trying to look mean and aggressive. I'm sure they have no idea of its political affiliation.

Would you feel equally comfortable saying Mexican trash or black trash?

Last summer, my son overheard someone saying that the Cleveland Browns should change their name because it was offensive. Everything is offensive. Everyone seems to be offended. Except for me. I don't care. Do what you want, and if someone gets offended, that's their problem, not yours. I'm certainly not going to spend my life walking on eggshells because no one has a sense of humor any longer.

It sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder due to your lousy sense of humor and lack of education.

White trash is more of an economic signifier, not a racist term. Try again.

Personally I look at it as meaning less government control and more individual rights. Just that. I am not affiliated with any political party.

+1 this is also what I've heard. It only has to do with wanting less government control.

Wow, another narrow minded ideologue.

Yes, it does make you look stupid, OP.

Whenever I see that flag, I just assume the person is under-educated and a perpetual victim. But it doesn't offend me at all.
