I'm not against age differences, but she dumped her husband and three children to be with an underage teenage boy, who is younger than two of her children. If a man did this, in the US, he would be charged with kidnapping and statutory rape.

If they met when he was 25, it wouldn't be a problem, even with the same age difference.

My guess is that she fulfills a need for validation; he's sort of like a teacher's pet that craves a pat on the head. She's always talking about how extraordinary he is. I can see how that would be exciting to an emotionally damaged young man.

To be fair, she probably would today, now that there has been enough attention drawn to the double standard ("He's just lucky that his teacher slept with him"). I think Letourneau was a turning point in this mentality -- in the US, at least.
