I would love to respect Trump. I was prepared to do so, after he won the election and when he was inaugurated. I do respect the position of the presidency and I deeply hope that our next president, whoever it may be, respects office. But sorry, as long as Trump does not respect the presidency, I cannot respect him. |
Op, thank you. I have signed the petition. Although I encourage you not to give 2 f s about this Colbert fool. His ratings have been crap since day one and he will enjoy a temporary bump from things like this, but it will be just that, temporary. He will be gone soon enough. He does look like crap now, just have to say. |
Agree that Colbert's joke was inappropriate and disappointing. I was really surprised and also lost respect for him. But I didn't find it homophobic. I can imagine some of my lewder gay friends saying such a thing. But homophobic or not, I find the idea of Trump expecting personal respect from others laughable - especially when he has bragged about sexually assaulting women and getting away with it because he's a celebrity. It's hard to respect someone who thinks it's okay to banter about such things in order to impress a minor television personality. |
What an odd post. You are complaining about Colbert's language by using bad language. |
I respect the office and what it stands for but the person occupying said office has to earn my respect.
Much of what has been directed, even before January, isn't right regardless of who the president is since they have yet to establish a record but it is, unfortunately, the norm with the political bigotry that exists in our nation. |
The problem with Trump is that he has had decades to establish his record. I think people were hopeful that he would change after the swearing in. But he didn't and he won't. |
I actually do believe that we should respect the President because of the office and I think it was an off color remark.
But I also believe that comedians should be able to tell jokes about the President as they always have because that's kind of the essence of our country and something both sides faced. Also you need to learn how to proofread OP. |
He's been number one all year and has been shooting up since the election. Trump has been good for Colbert. |
And Obama had virtually none. Bottom line is that political bigotry seeks out what justifies it. As for me I didn't vote for Trump or Hillary but whoever won I still hoped that what they did would be successful for our nation as a whole. Oh, and no person entering office has a record tied to their presidency. Holding it suspect based on their history is one thing, drawing a conclusion before the fact is another. |
I'm not sure what you mean. If you set aside the Russia stuff, the objection to Trump is his temperament, his character. At 70 and a public figure, it is known. So is Hillary's. Obama's temperament and character were less well known, but enough of him was seen during his campaign to know him. |
Obama never made up nicknames for his opponents. Or called women fat. We treat Trump like he treats others. |
So - are you saying don't pay attention to their promises and words and actions? All that gets erased on the day they take office? I don't really understand this thinking. Do you not elect someone because you like what they say they are going to do, and you feel that their background and character indicates an ability to carry out those plans? I loathed what Trump said he was going to do. I thought his background and character indicated a moronic bigot who was able to fool other moronic bigots. So far, he seems to have carried all that out. Or at least to have tried to. |
Not Op, but wow listen to yourselves. You are supposed to be the adults in the room and you're behaving like a two year old with a temper tantrum. |
Only because of the trump tag line. Without it he has no audience. |
LOL. Is that what FoxNews said? |
