Why so many racists at American?

Bananas hanging from nooses found on American University campus in Washington, DC after first black female student body president takes office

4+ hour lock down on Colgate University campus in Hamilton, NY after student reported armed black male on campus that turned out to be a black student using a hot glue gun for an art project

Video surfaces of Pittsburgh, PA police officer assaulting 14 year old student and knocking his tooth out. Student was later charged with resisting arrest, which video clearly shows he did not

A U.S. District Court Judge in Alabama has ruled that a predominantly white town in Alabama can separate themselves from their otherwise racially-mixed school district and return to segregation

This is not unique, this is reality. The question is no longer... Why so many racists in America, it is... What are you going to do about it?

It seems like there is a major racism-fueled incident at AU every month. Which got me thinking: why are there so many racist incidents at AU? I understand your frustration, but honestly the broad brush painting has to stop. AU is a large school. The school, or white students, should not be classified by the acts of a racist few. This is the same ignorant attitude folks apply towards AAs and other POC.

When events like this happen, the natural reaction is for folks to become insular. It would be nice if the university, or student groups, could open things up for a moderated conversation on race issues. When we get away from the name calling/labeling, and start engaging each other constructively, enlightenment is possible. IMO, if you can't accomplish this at a university, which exists to promote enlightenment, then we are in big trouble as a society.
