What do you fill the pinata with?

I do a mix of hard candy, mini gummy bags, chocolates, small toys and stickers/tattoos. I match both the pinata and what's in it to the party theme and the kids' ages. The older the kids, the more they expect candy, and for the younger ones soft stuff (that won't hurt if it hits them on the head) is best. For example, for a princess party, I did a castle pinata with "treasure"...toy jewelry, sticker gems, chocolate gold coins and chocolate gems, and princess stickers. Mini cloth finger puppets also work well in pinatas for little kids, and various themed bracelets or glow-in-the-dark toys are good for older ones. You can also find gummies/hard candies with less (or no!) sugar and a higher fruit content at specialty stores or online. From what I've seen, kid's don't care too much about what's inside the pinata...it's about the experience and competition to get the most of whatever there is.

Those erasers just get thrown in the trash. They don't work.

They're not meant to be used in that way, PP - they're meant to be collected and played with, like all collectible minifigures. Apparently the authentic Japanese brand Iwako is eco-friendly, too.

More little pieces of junk to throw away then.

Ugh, please no more Oriental Trading junk. I'd rather you put in the money you spent on that stuff into the pinata - nothing like striking the pinata and quarters come flying out. I already suggested the small bags of snacky foods/100 calorie packs, etc.

What about pennies or coins? Would that be a bad idea?

I have stressed the importance of good manners even when disappointed. But I'm not sure my kids could hide their disappointment at bags of low cal snack foods falling from a piñata. That's asking a lot.

Seriously, wtf is wrong with you people? Piñatas are filled with candy and maybe some little toys.

Right? I've never been to a party with a pinata, and even I could easily figure all this crap out. I'd go to the store and buy some candy and confetti, shove it all up the pinata's hole, and be done with it.

Maybe this is why people are so bitchy here. They're so stressed because they're obsessing over what to put in a pinata, a total non-issue. How high must their stress level rise when something ACTUALLY stressful is going on?

The thing I hate about pinatas is the pushing, shoving and hoarding. Someone always ends up crying and one kid ends up with most of the treats. What I did see at a party once that I liked was the pinata was filled with sandwich baggies full of equal amounts of each treat so it was easy to tell each kid they could pick up one (or two) bags when the pinata opened.
