I've done chocolate. I put it in he freezer overnight and then just stuff the piñata during the party or right before. It's fine assuming it won't be hanging in the summer sun for the whole party. We do chocolate because hard candy is generally worse for the teeth and my kid has dental problems.
We've also done stickers, mini colored pencils, crayons, mono gel pens or sharpies (depending on age--never give sharpies to little ones or you'll end up with graffiti couches), temporary tattoos. I don't do little plastic landfill toys, except that I recycle the little plastic landfill toys my kids get in other gift bags. I just save them all year and then Theo them into the piñata. Mainly because I don't really know what else to do with those! I figure every kid gets about 5 minutes of joy out of those plastic toys, so we should also just keep revolting them to maximize their useful life. I'm sure someone will say that's tacky. |
They're not meant to be used in that way, PP - they're meant to be collected and played with, like all collectible minifigures. Apparently the authentic Japanese brand Iwako is eco-friendly, too. |
| Candy |
More little pieces of junk to throw away then. |

In DC, grapes (cut in half, of course). And maybe cranberries as long as they don't have added sugar. For heaven's sake, no peanuts.
In the rest of the world, the only acceptable answer is candy! |
| A little bit of candy and snack packs of goldfish, pretzels, etc. |
| Candy. Just don't make the mistake I did - I put in one of those giant bags of Willy Wonka candy from Costco, complete with Nerds. The kids, predictably, opened the Nerds and spilled them everywhere in my house. I swear I kept vacuuming Nerds out of the couch and deep pile rug for nearly two years. |
| Candy. If you want all that other BS like nickels, raisins, pencils, etc... just don't have a piñata. Honestly. |
Grapes have too much sugar. We do mini bags of carrot sticks instead. And of course we only do the pull string piñata because whacking it is just so dangerous!!!! LOL |
But does anyone actually do this? They get thrown in a drawer and then thrown out. Candy or just do not do a piñata. Maybe coins. If you do pencils, make sure they are not presharpened ? |
It doesn't matter - put in whatever kind you want. Why would you ask that? Can't you make a decision? Or let your kid make the decision since it's their party? |
shhhhh - stop using common sense. It is foreign here. |
| Money! |
| Individually wrapped dried plums |
why of course because every parent I know says on a regular basis "my kids needs more little trinkets to collect. I just love finding them all over the hose, such a joy" |
