Fastest train in the world could run between DC and Baltimore by 2025

You don't have good rail system because you want your people driving. Who will buy those shitty American made cars and all the gas if people start using trains. But one can dream.

There has been an unabated epidemic of murders since the riots following the arrest/death of Freddy Grey.

Couple these facts with incompetent leadership, and Baltimore city's future is not bright.

Why waste a high speed rail line on Baltimore?

DC was the same way. A 15 minute commute to 150k housing stock?

But the transit within Baltimore is non-existent. What caused gentrification in D.C. was a certain urban, walkable lifestyle. Metro helps with that.

In Baltimore, there is nothing equivalent to Metro. So maglev will get you to one section of Baltimore, but it won't link up with any transit within Baltimore.

Actually metro was designed to move people in and out of the district. It skips the most densely populated areas of DC.

Don't be sorry. Leaves more space for the rest of us. Love the Maglev trains in Japan!

You go to Baltimore that frequently? You'll be going to Baltimore than frequently when/if this is done - like in 10 years?

This railway line has been in discussions for at least 30 years. It's always 10 years away. 10 years from now, it will still be 10 years away.

the environmental assessment will take a minimum of 5 years to complete, then it will be litigated, then property will have to be acquired, also litigated. Best case scenario is 20 years.

D.C. isn't much better.

Not after they build this train. Do you know how much house you can afford there with $400k? And a 20 minute commute to DC? I'll buy up houses in b'more as soon as they break ground.

I'm okay with this

I could be naive, but I think the eventual goal would DC - NYC, or DC - NYC - Boston. If you look at a map you will see why DC-Baltimore is a doable first stage demonstration.

That it would likely benefit Baltimore is really a side aspect, though I believe it is true (though more for businesses than for commuters)
