Anyone giving up their LATIN 5th grade spot?

Anonymous
Stupid fake news posts about Latin are disgusting. Really sad to see lies posted here.

Back to the OP, we had friends get in who were in the first 10 last year.

Good luck with the lottery and best wishes for you and your family.

We just declined our 5th grade spot to stay at a Deal feeder.

The Latin Board has committed to starting one - within next 4 years.

Are they going to make one of them academically rigorous?

Here we go again.

Seems like a great school, but not academically rigorous. Maybe the next Latin will be like Boston Latin.

Washington Latin isn't meant to be Boston Latin.

WL admits via an open lottery not competitive admissions.

Please just move to Boston already.

I really don't understand the attitude of Latin parents. When you bring up a totally reasonable point of people shut it down immediately. Unless you fall all over self praising the school, you're in the wrong. It is not an academically rigorous school. I wish it was.

I'm the PPP. It isn't the most rigorous school. But that isn't its mission. Its name is similar to Boston Latin because that's what the whack job who founded it chose. He was basically run out of town on a rail, and we have the school that Martha Cutts built.

If WL claimed to be the most rigorous school in the city, then your criticism would be fair. But it doesn't. So please stop measuring them against something aren't trying to be.

We had #14 lottery spot and then moved in the wrong direction to 17. But then back in the right direction. We got offered a spot the day after first day at elementary started and turned it down.
It was the right decision for our child and he will be going to Hardy next year. I am truly content with how things turned out so far.

Not being sarcastic or intending to be mean, legitimately trying to understand- then what exactly is the point? It seems to me that it is a warm and fuzzy alternative to terrible DCPS high schools but is otherwise a very middle of the road choice. Sorry if this comes off as insulting, it is not intended to be insulting at all.

List for 5th and 8th should move soon. Declined 5th and had top 5 spot for 8th.

Its also calls Washington Latin because Latin is taught and discuss on emphasized. This we appreciated about it and although the founder can be validmy criticized, I still appreciate him for somehow starting WL and then Martha for keeping it viable and growing it successfully.

Ironically, the person complaining about lack of rigor doesn't appear to know that it should be "I wish it were,"not "I wish it was."

Perfect burn. Previous PP, you need to go away now.
