Different mix of students that actually apply. There is growing group that has soured on TJ, and doesn't apply. The benefits of McLean and Langley override the benefits of TJ.

There were 3423 applicants for the class of 2016.
There were 2868 applicant for the class of 2020.

2020 is also the unusually small entering class, so there might have been something going on with that particular class. Wasn't there a change in the math part of the exam that year?

Class of 2019 had 2841 applicants.

2020 had as many acceptances (480-490, plus took the waitlist). They just had a low yield.

But yes, it was the first time the essay was a word/math problem.

Typically, there are no schools outside FCPS that place more than 10 kids o TJ. The FCPS FOIA office redacts the numbers below 10, ostensibly on personal privacy grounds.

The are only 1-3 middle schools in LCPS that place about 10-15 kids a year, the rest are closer to 2-5 per school. It gets pretty competitive because TJ only holds about 60 slots each year for LCPS.

If FCPS kids can't attend AOS, I'm not sure I understand why so many seats are reserved at TJ for LCPS kids.

TJ is classified as a governors school. I believe they receive some funding from the state and are thus required to admit students from multiple counties. Although i don't think loudon send 60 kids. that sounds high.

Has this been requested yet for 2017?

I believe it. About 30% of TJ students came from outside Fairfax County for class of 2020. That's 140 kids or so.

Arlington had 27 kids admitted last year.

FC City won't have many. So 60 from Loudoun seems very possible.

Have the 2021 numbers been released?

Not that I've seen, and I'm on FCAG's mailing list. FCPS doesn't release them until some submits a FOIA request, and FCAG always does the FOIA request.

Has any one seen the class of 2021 demographics? They usually release them with the admissions decisions (X number of kids applied, X admitted, male/female, race, FCPS/not, FARMs, etc). But, my Google skills got me nowhere.

TJ parent here, and I have hearing from people who heard from people who think (so quite possibly not true), that this year's class skewed more white/ less Asian than it has been in awhile, and relied more on subjective factors, less on test scores. I'm wondering if there is some surprise in the demographics that is going to upset everyone (like this being the year that AA and Hispanic kids just gave up and stopped applying, or a huge shift toward either white or Asian, or male vs female, or something else). If anyone has them, can you post them, or link to them? I'm pretty sure they came with my kid's acceptance info. Thanks!

The acceptance was just an e-mail with a web page to accept or not. I don't recall any links to composite information.

FCPS used to put out a press release with general demographic information on the numbers of students applying and accepted. Not this year.

Over the past year, FCPS has gotten incredibly stingy with releasing data on test scores and demographic information that historically was made available more promptly. It's unclear whether that's due to some change in philosophy (for example, a view that more transparency leads to greater segregation) or just laziness and disarray. There are a lot of administrators at Gatehouse now who do next to nothing, who certainly have time to put out a release on the 2021 admissions if they wanted to.

Good for LBSS. Where did you get the info?

FCPS needs to hire a new Superintendent soon. Lockerd is the definition of a lazy caretaker, and the school system is basically on auto-pilot.
