I will answer this question assuming you actually want to be educated on this and are not just saying you want to understand. Here is an article that is local and easy to understand. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/01/27/trump-says-sanctuary-cities-are-hotbeds-of-crime-data-say-the-opposite/?utm_term=.0905f77648ff Of course to really understand you need to understand crime. If you educate yourself on why "3 strikes your out" was a huge failure that created more crime, it is the same idea. If you create an environment where parents are not with their children, there is more crime. If you create an environment where people are afraid to report crimes to the police, there is more crime. If you create an environment where people are afraid to be a witness to crime, there is more crime. I think we need to limit immigration and control illegal immigration. I think we need to do that with technology, satellites, etc... not a wall. I think we need to deport criminals not grandparents or students who fill out their FAFSA. |
OP, I would call the studio in Chevy Chase & ask to speak with the owner. Most of these guys know each other from different local shows, competitions, fitness conventions etc. If you tell the owner that you're very interested, but live far away from CC in (name town here), he may be able to put you in touch with someone more local to you that he knows. Some of these guys will do private lessons too, like of you can guarantee him 10 people, they'll come to a local studio, gym, YMCA & rent out an hour in their location. Calling another highly respected instructor & asking him if he knows anyone more local to you would probably be your best bet in yielding positive results. Most people take action AFTER an attack on themselves or their children, so I commend you for doing such a great job at being proactive. Thanks to you, they'll be ready if God forbid they ever need it. |
I see the president of the he-man woman haters club is back. Wtf are you talking about dipshit?? Did you watch either of the videos posted above?? Both women took down their attackers & neither of them had a gun! Oh & just to educate you further genius, Krav Maga isn't "unarmed martial arts" its a self-defense system developed for the Israel Defense Forces. God, I hope you dont have a daughter... with your ridiculously backwards way of thinking, her own daddy will make her feel weak & insecure and you'll fuck up her self confidence for life. You know NOTHING... for the future of our society, don't reproduce. That would be extremely irresponsible. |
Is America becoming Sweden and Germany where no girl or woman is safe? Kind of chilling thought... I can't imagine sinking my fingernails into someone's eyes and ripping out the eyeballs. I just can't imagine hearting someone that bad, even knowing that he is nothing more but subhuman...and I am an adult women. Will 14 yo be able to? Even in the life threatening situation? I am not sure.... |
WTF. Germany and Sweden have much lower rates of violent crime than the US. And since it bears repeating, Sanctuary Cities have lower rates of crime than Non-Sanctuary Cities. Ugh. |
|
You are literally ON the INTERNET, people.
Google "sanctuary cities safer statistics" or "rape statistics sweden" and "rape statistics usa." Geez louise. It's not hard. |
|
Carrying a gun sounds great in theory but you can't carry one in HS. Not sure about college. Do colleges have rules about this?
I feel like self-defense training is better than nothing. |
|
For girls it is less safe to carry a gun (unless it is a shotgun) because the perp can take the gun easily and use it on her.
There was a study. (it was of people that entered houses, that is why it is better to have a shotgun than a handgun for girls for self defense) |
Yes they can if taught. Not sure anybody has actually had to dismember anybody but it give them time to get away or for somebody to render aid. Girls also need to be taught if they are hit they can get up... boys learn that in football and other contact sports. |
This guy needs to open up a branch in Rockville! After the rape last week, there are tons of parents who have commented about signing their girls up for self-defense classes. I bet he could easily fill a class. Or even if not opening a branch, maybe he could offer Krav Maga classes at a local yoga studio or something. |
my husband is very pro-gun, but as someone else said, a shotgun in your home is the safest bet - recoil really hurts, but you don't have to aim that well legal or not, we allow our 15 year old girl to carry pepper spray that looks like lipstick.... the most important thing is to be able to recognize danger recent conversation between my Latino husband (who grew up in bad NYC neighborhoods) and son: if you see a bunch of black teens on the sidewalk should you cross the street or will they think you are racist? It does not matter what they think - if they are coming for you they will come no matter what - crossing the street at least puts some distance between you so you have time to prepare (or my hope - go after someone else) But I echo what everyone else has said - you have to take a class (or have a bad experience) to get rid of social inhibitions. We are really paranoid and when our kids were little used to watch the John Walsh "safe side safety chick?" video and had our kids practice screaming out loud "Help, this is not my Daddy; Help, this is not my mommy!" because some have assumed with screaming kids that it is their parent disciplining them not someone abducting them. But waiting until it is too late because you feel awkward or doubt your instincts is a HUGE mistake. |
Good advice. Thank you |
I have a brown belt in judo and also studied jiu jitsu until my early twenties. I'm an Asian woman, 5ft 125 lbs. It helped tremendously with confidence. I could totally throw and choke someone bigger and taller than me. When I was abroad, I almost got raped but of course, all my training paid off. I put a chokehold on that stupid man's throat. He passed out. He was in jail when he woke up. I also studied Muay Thai, however, striking is not as effective as grappling when you are in close contact with your attacker. I have yet to study Krav Maga as it adds an element of surprise and quick thinking, although that is what martial arts teaches you. I only have sons and I teach them judo. They also get lessons on how to escape when they are duct taped or cable tied. For them it's fun. If I had girls, they would be badasses, too. |
Way to go!! I'm a wimp but DD is going to be tiny and I would like her to have some confidence. Good for you! |
I've taken Jiu-Jitsu for a couple of years (blue belt only) and as a 150 lb guy can take on a fit 200lb guy. The ability to maneuver on the ground is key. Krav Maga mixed with that would probably make for a pretty lethal 'dirty MMA'. One thing for Jiu-Jitsu over Krav Maga is that you can actually practice your moves to near completion without tearing your partner's eyeballs out. |
