| Single mom here. Took my same aged kid to St. John last August. We had an absolute blast, could not recommend more. |
Where did you stay? Do you recommend staying in Cruz Bay, Coral Bay, or somewhere else? |

As a single mom w two, I'd do Provo or cruise for June. I took mine to Beaches in June a couple of years ago and they loved it. And they are dying to do a Disney cruise. There would be plenty to do. Maybe St. John but depends on activities.
Cape and MV would be awesome, but I do remember that Maine in June a couple of years ago was quite chilly, so weather might not be as warm and water would be cold. If you stayed w pool and fun activities, I don't think it would matter. |
Rented a small house in Coral Bay |
| I took my kids to St Thomas/St John and we all loved it! St Johns is a bit more nature-y. St Thomas has more of the tourist stuff that they really liked. But you can easily ferry back and forth between the two. |
| Provo, Utah? |
Providenciales in Turks & Caiscos |
+1 Most of the Cape is a summer and retiree town, so most of the Cape is perfectly fine. OP, do you avoid D.C. because of the murders? |
| A cruise would definitely be the easiest and most relaxing. Also, more activities/playmates to keep your 10yo busy. I'm not the hugest fan of cruising but I'd do it in a heartbeat as a single mom traveling with one child. |

Single mom here. I have done many cruises with my kids, and we always have a wonderful time. Most reliably fun ships have been Royal Caribbean. (Disney is very nice, but almost twice as expensive.) My kids have a blast at kids' club, and they tend to run around with friends they made there when we are on the beach. If you want peace and quiet, there are usually many places to find it -- even on a big megaship. For instance, the adults-only pool is usually very low key with lots of available lounging chairs. Also, if you have get a balcony room, you would have guaranteed private space.
If you have concerns about meeting people, you have the opportunity to connect with other families prior to boarding through the relevant Facebook groups and/or Cruisecritic roll calls. (And, it is also extremely easy to meet people in the casino - seriously. For some reason, folks are always super-chummy and friendly around the tables, and it is very easy to strike up a conversation. Just sit down with $20 and ask someone to help you learn how to play. When you see those same people outside of the casino, it's like they are your long-time best friends.) |
What was your favorite cruise? I.e the ports of call. |
Cozumel, St. Maarten and the private island at Labadee. |

Thank you everyone for the feedback!
Provo (T&C) is having crime issues, so it's very low on the list now. I'm leaning towards St John or a cruise, just need to bite the bullet and pick one. I'm thinking we can try and do Cape Cod or MV during the fall break in September. |
| My biggest hesitation with STJ is having to drive to all the beaches. Such a hassle. But I see that we can stay in Caneel Bay resort and walk to gorgeous beaches. Anyone stay there with kids? |
We stayed there before kids, but there were kids all around and the kids program looked good from what we could tell. I would take my kids if we wouldn't have to pay for 2 rooms (max 3 people/room). |
