This is so tall! My almost 12 year old is 4'7 lol. He is pretty much the same height as all of his friends. None of them are over 5 ft yet. Do kids really grow between 11 and 12?

What’s the purpose of this statement? Clueless.

I know that only time will tell, but is he tall right now because he is going to be significantly taller than us or is he early for his growth spurt and will level off? Is it possible to be in a true growth spurt by 11-12? I am 5'2" and my husband is 5'7".

I am looking for similar experiences and would like to know what ultimately ended up being the result? Thanks!

Is OP possibly still around? It's been five years. I want an update!

My DS is almost 14 and is 5'3" with no puberty in sight.

My DH said he finished growing earlier than his peers- maybe by 15? He was always on the tall end of his class. He ended up at 6’ — tall, but certainly not the tallest kid by the end of high school. His parents are average/below average height.

My son just took a photo with an old friend he hasn't seen since they were 12.

The kid towered over my son then. He was already around 5'10". My son looked like a tiny baby next to him.
They recently got together at 17.5 and the photo comparison from the one over 5 years ago is crazy. My son is now taller than him (a little over 6 feet and growing) and much more muscular/broad.
My sons don't begin their growth spurts until they turn 15. My youngest just started his and we see the same thing with fully developed kids on his sports team--deep voice, facial hair and tall...and my kid just started growing, has a baby face, not filled out and much shorter.

We are expecting many many more inches and a late finish, just like both his uncles. We are not tall people, but looking at others in the family suggest that the genes are there.

He won't grow much more, keep dreaming,.

Why does it bother you though?

DP. My brother was 5'10" when he graduated high school and 6'2" when he graduated college 4 years later.

I know this post is old and I guess OP’s kid has made it through high school, but here’s my short parents- tall kid story for OP.

My aunt and uncle are short- maybe 5’3” and 5’8” respectively. Cousin is 6’6”. No one is sure how that happened as I don’t think there’s any tall cousins either.

What I have seen is that kids start a growth spurt when they start puberty ("smell and need deodorant" or "grow hair"). That spurt will last 3 years and they will grow 9 inches during that time... give or take. They will grow up to 3 inches more in their life time until the growth plates close. (they can close in 9th grade, they can close when they are 25) If he breaks anything asked the orthopedic to check his growth plate when they do the x-ray.

Most kids that were the tallest in 6-8 are now the shortest as my son graduates HS. My son is 6'2", he started puberty in 9th grade (poor kid) and grew 9 inches those 3 years and most likely will grow a few more.

aw.. my DS hit puberty at the ripe old age of 15. He had the biggest glowup per his peers. He hit puberty during the pandemic. Freshman year he was 5'1.25". He's a senior and now about 5'10". That tracks with 9". And he's still growing per the pediatrician. DH was the same way.

I'm super short, but DH is 6'+.

OP, everyone is different, but generally, if your DS has started puberty already, more than likely, he won't grow that much more-- mabye 3"? -- depending his tanner stage.

5’11 is unusual. My daughter had a classmate that tall, and he definitely stood out! Most 11 year old boys are short, and the girls are taller. By the time they are in 8th grade, the girls are almost done growing, and the boys have shot up, and then they continue to grow significantly taller in their high school years.

When did you and DH have a growth spurt? Was your husband 5’7” by the time he was 14-15? How about you? When did you get your period? Perhaps if you were both late bloomers, your son will ended up being taller.

I know my niece and nephew were very very short up to 15-16. Their parents were 5’9” and 6’ so quite tall (mom at least). Both parents were late bloomers and the kids were late bloomers too. As adult my niece is 5’8” and nephew 6’.

I would love an update from OP

My 13 year old son is 5’8. He tracks 95% consistently. He started puberty at age 11/12, and I to wonder if how tall he’ll be. Both parents are 5’6.
