Surprise! What did the seller take with them that you expected would stay with the house?

Thing is these were those metal cut to size custom fittings and I cannot believe they would fit any closet easily as the closets were really weird sizes-and just that ugly plain white metal. As this was a 6000sf house (Atlanta so big but not the mansion it would be up here!!!) replacing everything for the 5 bedrooms, 2 linen closets and laundry and office was a total PIA. The sellers moved from Georgia to Washington state and anything legal (as it really was a theft of $$1000's in materials and labor) would have been ridiculously complicated so we did nothing but 10 years later still burns. Made the move in so crazy as we were so "nice" to let their kids finish the summer with their friends and we moved in 2 weeks before school started and had to set up closets before we could really unpack bedrooms/set up my office (WOH)

I paid $1,000 for my ELFA closet systems...so yes I'm taking those bitches with me. Just pointing that out.

I'd take them too. Kitchen cabinets are permanent but I don't consider closet stuff permanent. Same with curtain and curtain rods. I'd leave the window shades as those are particular to the window.

The drapes! OMG we were exposed to the world!

The seller took the machine that hooked into the ceiling speakers all over the house so you could play music. He should NOT have taken that. It's been years, but I still think about how petty that was. And now the technology is old so I don't even know how to replace it.

Guess I'm the 3rd person here who had the lightbulb theft / removal happen to them. And I'm talking EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. All the recessed bulbs were removed, all the bathroom lights, every single little bulb on 3 chandeliers - GONE. I was livid. They also took the hose and attachments for the central vac, but they weren't moving into a place w/ central vac, so not sure why they did that.

This was my plan. But on the last day my 4 yr old started crying about moving. The house was empty except for a roll of toilet paper. He was still holding it and crying when we walked out.

Curtain rods and hardware are fixtures, drapes are not. Sellers don't have to leave anything behind so long as they state it in their sales documents. If they do not expressly state they want the rods, chandelier, closet shelveing then it stays.

As someone who spends a lot on curtains and light fixtures (mostly antiques, I don't take them all), I always write that those don't convey.

And garage shelving? That isn't built into the house, so why would you think that would convey?

Taking antique chandeliers with you is a lot different than unscrewing every single light bulb and taking those. Pretty petty.

I believe there is a law that the house must be left in livable condition. That means the smoke detectors should remain. The lightbulbs are questionable since you really can remedy that yourself. I heard of one case where they took the shower heads leaving the shower unusable.

I would never expect anyone to leave me toilet paper or any other product. I would expect the TP holder and towel bars to be there, though.

If you can take it with you, I don't see what the issue is. I think its a bit bizarre but light bulbs are personal in terms of color and preference. I'd take my light fixtures but I'd replace them before I listed my house.

Our house was gross as it was an estate sale. Lots of things broken and missing as they cleared out the home in a hurry. We didn't care.

Right?! This happened to us, too. Also wasn't pleased at a giant hole in a wall, that had been covered by artwork.

Most of the convenient outlets in our old house were the newer USB integrated outlets. We had 3-4 per room. I knew I wanted the same convenience in the new house. We swapped them out for standard outlets.

Their CAT!!

They gave it to a neighbor, and as an outdoor cat, it lurks in our yard and constantly begs to come 'home.' It even dashed inside our house once and I had to catch it.

I mean, I expected them NOT to leave this!
