Surprise! What did the seller take with them that you expected would stay with the house?

Toilet paper holders and towel bars. We thought it was some kind of joke.

Their weird smell? 10 years later, on a hot summer day, I can still smell them.

We did a 1 month rent back to our sellers after settlement and found out they had removed all the closet shelves and a built in shelving system in the office. Thing is these were those metal cut to size custom fittings and I cannot believe they would fit any closet easily as the closets were really weird sizes-and just that ugly plain white metal. As this was a 6000sf house (Atlanta so big but not the mansion it would be up here!!!) replacing everything for the 5 bedrooms, 2 linen closets and laundry and office was a total PIA. The sellers moved from Georgia to Washington state and anything legal (as it really was a theft of $$1000's in materials and labor) would have been ridiculously complicated so we did nothing but 10 years later still burns. Made the move in so crazy as we were so "nice" to let their kids finish the summer with their friends and we moved in 2 weeks before school started and had to set up closets before we could really unpack bedrooms/set up my office (WOH)

Every time I read posts about frugality and tips for being frugal I think about this kind of thing. I'd rather be a nice person (even to a stranger) and do the right thing than brag about saving money (and spending a lot of time) when it screws someone else. To take a half used roll of TP off a roll, pack it move it, unpack it and put it on the dispenser in your new house really gives you that much money-saving pleasure?

Outdoor speakers. We demanded them back at closing (they were in the write up on the house) and they were mailed back to us.

So none of you had a walk thru before closing?

another for the light bulbs. Sneaky bastard came the day before we were to move in and took them all. Got him back though. We kept his tools he left in the garage storage room. Dumb shit forgot and never came back for them.

$10,000 chandelier. gaudy as hell but very expensive...
When we bought the house there was an audio visual cabinet full of gear that they said conveyed otherwise the internal speakers would not work...when we went to turn stuff on they had unplugged the entire thing and taken the hub so it didn't work...but they left everything else...which was useless...and so we hired an av guy to come in and turns out in their removal of the system they broke it..,.

love this house...really don't like them.

Our buyer left a bunch of furniture and a vacuum behind. It was all there at closing and when we returned to the house a day later we found the neighbor in our home and an empty house. He said the previous owner left it to him. We didn't want to throw a fit because we were going to get rid of or sell the furniture (so ugly, but antiques). We let it go, asked the neighbor to leave, and changed the locks. A few days later another neighbor took our patio furniture (we could see it in their backyard). Was a weird situation because we didn't want to make enemies with our neighbors.

Glass shelves in the bathrooms (from Restoration Hardware), the lamp post from the front yard, ALL of the paint (which was stacked in the basement every time we were in the house, including the walk-through...a huge pain because there were so many different colors in the house and we could have used the paint for touch ups...ended up having to paint the entire house due to damage when previous owners removed things from the walls).

Wow. Were they upset?
