oops, sorry. The 18 year-old part through me off.

yeah, this is a bigger issue, but I'm not sure punishment can fix you. You've just got to cross you fingers and hope it doesn't affect what she wants.

What she wants or what you want? Clearly you are not on the same page and she is showing you in a round about way.

What a shame. I have no advice, but I hope she'll soon learn that bad decisions have consequences and doors at this point in your life start to shut.

Not necessarily. The girl probably wants to go away to college just like her friends are going away to college. But all of her friends have college acceptance letters and they have kicked back and are having fun. When your friends are all having fun it's hard to resist the temptation to do likewise....

Be glad that she's learning this while she's at home, Op.

I assure you she wants nothing more than the chance to brag about getting into a great college and go to college. Her goals. Sounds like she doesn't want to work for it on the final stretch and thinks I'll save the day, either way. I am not going to reward her screw up. This was obvious from a mile away.

OP you clearly want only one type of answer that already agrees with what you have in mind. How can you possibly reward her? What are you talking about? I don't get it. I think you have a very high opinion of yourself.

What school system is this? Who is having midterm now? In my experience, this doesn't match any timeline I know.

Op, is it that now is the end of 1st semester and you/she is just now learning about her midterm exam grade?

Huh? End of the semester is in January at practically every high school.

so midterm exams are not now.

NP and my DD just got her midterm exam grades back today.

I wouldn't punish her. There will be natural consequences that she will surely feel. What's done is done. College choices Amy be more limited now and she has no one to blame but herself.

I think the confusion is that in college mid-terms are mid-semester, but some high schools call semester exams mid-terms because they mark the middle of the year. OP is talking about semester one exams/grades.

Did she study?

If she studied and this happened, be kind and help her get to the bottom of it.

If she blew it off, then she's grounded until she is back on track.

I take it back, since you said this was obvious from a mile away.

My son knows that if he wants to go out of state, he has to earn it via hard work. I think GM U is in her future. A good school, a teen the right price.
