| Enough about DC. Let's talk about nova. |
New non "butt hurt" poster, you can rest assured that any person who mentions the Gold Coast neighborhood is not talking about VA. It's okay for everything not to be applicable to you. |
| I had always heard the Gold Coast as McLean |
|
I live in DC, and vastly prefer it to all of NOVA, but, I too have heard of that stretch of Arlington/McLean from Chain Bridge up along the Potomac side on Chain Bridge Road to the GW Parkway called the "Gold Coast" because it is $$$ real estate and overlooks the river. Its inhabited by people like the Saudi Ambassador, Kennedys, and Tech billionaires.
Isnt it possible that both are correct? |
Of course, but you're being reasonable. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/where-we-live/wp/2015/06/08/former-home-of-alexander-haig-returns-to-the-market/?utm_term=.a1605bd33544 https://www.washingtonian.com/2008/07/31/luxury-homes-august-2008/ http://washingtonlife.com/2007/06/01/the-2007-wealth-list/2/ |
Of course, there are no threads allowed on the Real Estate forum unless they mention McLean or North Arlington. |
Arlington agent here. The McLean/Arlington area bordering the river is called the Gold Coast because of obviously expensive houses with river and city views OP was referring to DC's Gold Coast, once the confines of wealthy AAs during housing segregation. The PP correctly described DC's Gold Ciast and the other poster correctly identified the Virginia Gold Coast |
They have a few houses for rent right now. |
No one in DC refers to McLean as the Gold Coast. It is a very well known DC term that refers to the neighborhoods already listed. You are clearly not from here. |
Have you been to Crestwood and Colonial Village? If you have, you wouldn't ask this question. It is absolutely beautiful. More beautiful than most neighborhoods west of the Park, while being less expensive. |
I'm not sure west of the park is more desirable these days. They feed into the same schools and nothing is on the market. They also have larger lots and are directly on Rock Creek Park which is very desirable. |
+1 Must always praise McLean, diss Arlington, and REALLY diss Great Falls - even if the post is nothing about that. Doesn't exactly make anyone want to live in McLean. |
Does everything have ro be about the same old topic? Gold Coast has always been Arlington and McLean. Like it or not. |
Are you dense? Geez, just look at DC's Gold Coast on Rock Creek Park and compare it to Arlington. No comparison. Go back to VA. |
+1. I, too, live in DC and have no interest in NoVA, but clearly there can be multiple uses for a term, even if one is older and more "authentic" (i.e. less of a commercial artifact invented by realtors) than the other. It doesn't mean that the other meaning doesn't exist and the poster who first brought it up is wrong and to be embarrassed. The viciousness from the DC posters is as annoying as the constant NoVA boosting on other threads. |
