I am sad that summer is almost over

I love the 5:00pm sunsets, crisp mornings, cooking, being outdoors without feeling sticky, and warm, comforting things.

Same here. Can't wait for fall.

I feel a creeping anxiety as we move into fall and hit DST. 5 pm darkness is the absolute pits. I love being outside all day long in summer and 9 pm sunset.

I'm an "outdoorsy" person but just don't understand this. Don't you feel sweaty, sticky, and smelly? Everything smells 100x more in the summer - from everything outside, to ourselves. Do you like feeling like you need to take a shower again, an hour after you've taken a shower? Or collect bugs on your sticky sweaty body? Do you like being sunburned? Damaging your skin? Do you like being stung by mosquitoes, or wasps & bees? Or dehydration from sweating all the time?

But I empathize, because my anxiety creeps in starting in March. I dread all of the above, and more. I can't wait to enjoy being outside again!

I mean we get hot and sweat but I just don't freak out about it. We take another shower if we need to. Wear sunscreen and bug spray. No biggie.

Then you stink like chemicals (in addition to the increased BO that comes with summer, for everyone), plus the disgusting greasy feeling all over. And then it gets on your clothes. It's something one tolerates in the worst of times - I don't know how anyone finds wearing sunscreen or bug spray enjoyable or comfortable.

Ugh, I hate summer so much.

During past summers, camp drop off and pick up has been easier because the traffic is less busy. However, this summer, the traffic has been just as bad on the beltway so unfortunately, logistically it's been as challenging as during the school year.

I find it quite easy to manage my children at the pool during the winter since it is closed.

+1

Being outside in the summer feels so natural. We just wear hats and don't bother with sunscreen or bug spray. The heat is fine, it's called acclimation.

I'm with you. I've never understood the appeal of summer, sure the days are longer but who wants to be outside dripping sweat in the heat and humidity with bugs all over the place? The early days of summer are nice but other than those few weeks, I like fall and winter.

Honestly I try to enjoy every season. Why live in fear of weather? I love summer because I spend it on Cape Cod. Love fall with pumpkins, cooler weather. Love winter because I am a skier. Love spring because it starts the cycle again. We eat dinner outside 3 seasons. Life is really better when you don't see the negative in everything!

I would also think more positively if I spent the summer out on cape cod. But instead I'm stuck working here in DC. Which sucks. I can't walk to work because I'll be gross by the time I get there. It's too muggy to eat outside at night. Even walking the dog stinks.

And we all know summer heat continues into September - and sometimes October. It ain't over until the first snow hits!

... and sometimes into November. They used to call it the "Indian Summer". Clear blue sky and cool dry air.

I remember Indian Summer. That was before Global Warming!

No sports or activities or homework during summer...just camp, the pool, and lots of trips to the beach.

Racing home to get the kids to practice, then frantically finishing homework super sucks. Our Saturdays are filled with games in far flung towns. Sundays are the only day off, and I typically spend the day cleaning.

Ugh.

+100 I am dreading the start of school too and the crush of the schedules. I was just working out a school carpool today, looking at the sports tryout calendars, etc. and I wanted to cry.

+1 - and I even spend the summers here!

I don't feel well physically unless it's cold, so I hate the hot summers here and have to stay indoors. I do love having the kids home and the relaxed schedule, as we mostly work from home. I also like the farmer's market produce and the late sunsets. I have friends in other parts of the country where the kids start school next week and the week after.

We just spent $1070 for school supplies, uniforms and school related fees for one grandchild that starts high school next week. PUBLIC SCHOOL. Parents are struggling, jobs lost. Gotta help when we can.

When did that get to be so expensive ? And that does not include PE uniform fees, shoes, electives, football fee, cleats and insurance.

It must be miserable to go through life not being able to enjoy the moment. If you love summer so much, why don't you enjoy it instead of wasting your time being sad.

... and then death comes. Gee, "lighten up Francis".
