Would you allow your child to sleep over a house with recent lice?

What if they didn't know and then your kid came home with lice? Tell your kid not to use their hairbrushes, pillows etc and check when they come home.

I'm sure they cleaned it all out and other posters that are freaking out are going way overboard. But, if you don't feel comfortable just let them know your kid won't be coming.

Yes, this.

I guess you don't know anyone who has had lice. It can stay for weeks, requiring multiple chemical shampoos, house cleanings, calls to the Lice Lady etc. Not worth it for a sleepover.

My kids have had it and while burdensome, we did not need to do all that. House cleanings? Really. They only live on human head. The Lice Lady people just say bag bedding, etc you can't wash.

If my kid is invited to this kid's house to sleepover, I assume they are good friends, and my kid is already in the line of fire.

Send her with her hair covered in mayo, and wearing a shower cap.

Oh yah, that is exactly the same as braiding her hair and washing it.

No. We had lice once and it was a pain and expensive to get rid of it. Despite constant infestations in school this year, we thankfully did not have it again this year and I would not purposefully expose my kid to conditions that are ripe for it which sleepovers often are - pillows close together, sharing blankets, doing each other's hair, etc. if it could be avoided.

Our kids have had lice several times. I would still send if I thought the family had dealt appropriately (with intense combing & picking) b/c I would be pretty sure my kids wouldn't get. If they only shampooed and half heartedly combed, I might not. Lice is not a big deal & not hard to get rid of if you know what you're doing.
