Would you allow your child to sleep over a house with recent lice?

Send her with her hair covered in mayo, and wearing a shower cap.

+1. I wouldn't have a problem but my guess is that they will reschedule.

Lol. Just send your kid over with the life shampoo already lathered into her hair as a precaution. Or just don't let her go.

I would send my kids because while lice is annoying and disgusting it is not life threatening. At least they were upfront and told you. What if they didn't know and then your kid came home with lice? Tell your kid not to use their hairbrushes, pillows etc and check when they come home.

I'm sure they cleaned it all out and other posters that are freaking out are going way overboard. But, if you don't feel comfortable just let them know your kid won't be coming.

Nope. I don't have time to be inconvenienced with lice removal. Major PIA. Packing up stuffed animals, constant hot wash and combing hair. Constant yuck feeling.

No f@cking way.

Yes, this.

I guess you don't know anyone who has had lice. It can stay for weeks, requiring multiple chemical shampoos, house cleanings, calls to the Lice Lady etc. Not worth it for a sleepover.

NP. Here. We have had it, all of 3 of us. And it didn't require most of that. One computer from Lice Happens then daily combing for a week. Every other day or two for two weeks. Lice were gone. And we were INFESTED.

I wouldn't. Sorry to those whose kids have had live. I know you feel stigmatized and I know live don't mean you're dirty. But we have been blessed to avoid them despite two infestations at DD's school. She has long, thick hair and I don't want to have to comb RID through it. The required nightly lice checks during those two infestations were bad enough. And I can't afford the Lice Ladies.

Who wants to expose their kid to these chemicals unnecessarily?

NFW. We've had lice- twice. It seems like it goes around all the first grade classrooms each year. It's horrible.

And if I was having the party, I would cancel/reschedule as a courtesy to all the other parents, so they didn't have to feel bad to rsvp NO.

No way. Reschedule or do a different outing.

when I saw the title of your post, I was going to say that I'd send my kid. but then I read your post -- the chemical shampoos aren't really supposed to be used anymore and the fact that this family is using it, would make me think that they aren't really effectively dealing with the lice.

Lice are a pain, and the other girl (the one your daughter is friends with) could easily have it.

Yes, they can still be used. They have to be kept on longer and reapplied at 10 days. Most important is brush through which they haven't.
