Pp here, just to add, only counted the cars we bought together, after we got married. If you count what we brought into the marriage, 13 cars.

Except you didn't answer the question of how much you spent.

OK sure:

'92 Honda - Don't really remember the price bought at, sold for $3000
'01 Nissan - $13k - 3 years, Sold $8k
'04 Mazda - $17.5k - 2 years, Sold $15k
'05 Toyota - $15.5k - 2 years, Sold $13k
'06 Honda - $26.5k - 4 years, Sold $19k
'07 BMW - $48k sticker - Lease for $460 a month for 36 months, returned.
'10 BMW - $38k - 4 years, Sold $25k
'10 Honda - $28.5k - 5 years, Sold 18.5k
'11 Toyota - $22.5k - 2 years, Sold 19k
'12 Mercedes - $35k - 3 years, Sold 22k
'14 BMW - $100k - Current
'16 Mercedes - $45k - Current
'16 Honda - $33k - Current

HHI is over $500k. 2 kids. We put a lot of mileage on our cars, perhaps 30k a year between two drivers. I love cars, enjoy driving.

Methinks someone with that HHI should leave the free stuff to the people who could benefit from it for financial reasons.

Married 6 years. DH brought a 2006 Lexus to the marriage, paid off. In 2011 we bought a 2007 Toyota Highlander for $23k, paid cash, when we were about to have twins. HHI $270k. We will keep these cars for a long time.

New poster here. DH and I are mid-40's and have been married for 15 years. We have two cars -- 2007 Toyota Sienna, and 2003 Toyota Highlander. HHI is $400K. We went 1 child to private school and like to travel, and so we have to be frugal when it comes to cars.

I'll share but I'm not attempting to say I'm all that great.

DH bought car while we weere dating. 8.5 years ago. He still drives it. We paid it off about 4(?) years ago. It is a 2002.

My car would have been similar; however it was totaled. We got an awesome appraisal, and found a good deal. This was 2 years ago. We ended up using the payout to pay of higher interest debt (school loan). So we financed. Will finish paying it off in 5 months! It is a 2009.

Both of these we will be keeping for as long as possible.

Geez on the second car I could have been more clear. Car totalled. Payout was higher than expected (yes!!) and the used suv with sunroof was a good deal. It's a 2009 and does great for our two kids. Like I said we financed that purchase to use the insurance payout on higher debt. But we're almost done with the car payments now anyway. Ok maybe that's a little better. I'm tired.

OMG I think I actually win something on DCUM. I never thought I'd see the day.

Married 13 years, two kids, HHI 180K

Brought into marriage:
Subaru bought for $50 (no typo), drove until it died.
We have bought two cars as a couple, both of which we still drive -
A VW that we financed (paid off long ago)
A 99 Honda that we bought for $3K and continue to drive today. We think it probably has another good 4-5 years in it, maybe more.

Do I win? Everyone's "cheap cars" were bought for $12K!

Depends - how much was the total of your financed VW? In general, I think cash trumps financing in terms of frugality.

Two cars, both bought new for cash.

One Nissan - $14K
One Honda - $19K

Married ten years. Have owned two cars-

1 Toyota- $1500
1 Subaru-$14000

Hhi ~175k

PP here. Whelp, guess you win. We were a 1-car family until we had our second, when we decided it wasn't safe not to have a backup car. If you can get by on a $1500 beater or only 1 car (if you have kids), kudos to you.

NP, we owned a 5 year old Camry which I paid $2k for, for 10 years, followed by a Rav 4 ($20k new)
