She was born a slave, nearly got beaten to death and died pretty much poor and forgotten (IIRC). She can look crabby if she wants, so to speak. It's also a nice counterpoint to the world of filters, 'shop, and zillions of digital pics we never look at. |
I think in a different time, h tubman and a Jackson would get along. Both were pretty fiery . |
And how much will this fluff change cost the American taxpayer? |
The cost is already factored in. Bills designs are changed every so often anyway. These aren't unplanned design changes, it's an announcement of who will be on the next design. |
Former President Andrew Jackson, a slave-holder, will lose his spot on the front of the $20 bill, to be replaced by Tubman. The back of the bill will depict the White House and an image of President Jackson.
Press. Another stupid idea. It'll take years for the security features of the bill to be made and before this bill will be in circulation. With all of the problems in this country, is this something we should be pursuing? We have better things to do. I'm surprised that Obama didn't issue an executive order directing the image of Fidel Castro or Che Guevara be used to replace Jackson. |
Jackson was a great President. Tubman - Obama was behind it. |
What about Clara Barton. She accomplished more. |
H T built up legend by revisionists. Got to respect her but remember she has been over sold. Typical of politics though. |
You and 23:19: weak trolling. |
That's probably the worst part about this. They only kept him because of a popular musical that makes historians cringe. Talk about luck. |
I'm as progressive as they come, but I don't really like fiddling things like this. It all feels so late empire, which I guess is what we are. |
I thought she'd get the $5 coin or something in the future, but having heard about what Andrew Jackson did to his slaves, this is poetic justice to replace him with the conductor of the URR. That romance novel I read about on here disgusts me too. |
Don't forget the Trail of Tears. The guy was a scumbag, even based on the morals prevalent in his own time. |
really? Look who is on the pound note. We are slow in comparison. |
It's funny seeing all these people saying yes, yes, yes to this. Most of you haven't heard of her before today. She might have been a great person and all but that fact is this just political correctness because of sex and skin color. Once again everyone's afraid to say it. |
