Durable shoes for REALLY active preschooler?

Vans old school or half cabs with the velcro. They have an extra rubber strip across the toe to hold up to skateboarding (skateboard grip tape is like sandpaper and eats shoes).

Another poster who swears by Keens. They are incredibly durable. Of course, your other option is to go through several pairs of cheap shoes. In the end you're probably spending the same kind of money for one pair of keens or four pairs of really cheap shoes.

I did get a refund (well, new shoes for no cost) when my son's striderite shoes got holes after a month. This was from a small local store.

Try keens.

Plae are the best for my foot-dragging son. Even dragging off a scooter in lieu of the brake pedal, they survive.

I just bought a second pair of Under Armour Assert 6 with velcro straps. They are great! Saucony has been lasted long for my DS and he recently begged me for Skechers light up shoes which are so heavy and have a hole after 2 months and they were $60!

I'd also recommend Keens. And also want to mention that the folks at Ramer's have mentioned we should bring shoes back if our kids wear through them that quickly, since we've had similar problems--especially with the saucony.

Jumping Jacks are the most durable shoe I've bought. There are different types, I think the one we have is called sport? It's got tons of covering on the toe and bottom, and is super durable.

Interesting, I didn't know that. However, as a NP, our daughter has also worn through Saucony shoes far faster than others--though stride right also doesn't hold up as well as Keen or See Kai Run.

Anyone in a similar boat and have a recommendation for shoes for a kid who is really tough on his shoes?

On a side note, anyone have success getting Stride Rite to refund or replace shoes that have lasted such a short amount of time?
I realize it's the way he's riding his toys that is causing this but at the same time these are pretty normal preschooler activities.

Thanks.

No - this isn't normal wear and tear. I have two boys who play pretty hard, but they have never torn holes in shoes.

wow really? i too have 2 boys and they have worn holes in shoes numerous times. Things like the balance bike, scooters and skateboarding are really tough on shoes.

OP- we have had better luck with shoes that have more leather in the front. Something like this:
http://www.striderite.com/en/srt-preschool-prescott-sneaker/20420P.html?dwvar_20420P_color=CB54051

the more running style types have never worked for us with Nike kids being the worst and falling apart after 2 weeks. you really need something with full leather in the front and good stitching.

No, they have never worn holes in their shoes, but I prefer New Balance sneakers and/or shoes that have a rubber toe. I also tell my kids not to drag their feet!

Did they ever have a a balance bike? because really the only way to stop is to drag feet. i am glad those days are over.

In all seriousness though my husband has ripped apart his sneakers skateboarding. i guess it just depends on the activities your kids do.

Eek. We are just getting started with a balance bike – was this a mistake? 🫣

Echoing that Keens are the answer.

This thread is from 2017 so I’m assuming OP’s kid is no longer riding a balance bike.

I would duct tape the holes.

Or maybe get him steel toe boots?

See kai run shoes have a rubber toe box. Maybe that would help.
