Durable shoes for REALLY active preschooler?

Anonymous
Have him play barefoot. It's good for his feet and he won't drag his feet.

Pedipeds are pretty durable and I also have to tell my son to not drag his feet.

i dont think the store owes you a new pair of shoes. fabric shoes dragged on the street are likely to develop holes.
just sayin.

Anyone in a similar boat and have a recommendation for shoes for a kid who is really tough on his shoes?

On a side note, anyone have success getting Stride Rite to refund or replace shoes that have lasted such a short amount of time? I realize it's the way he's riding his toys that is causing this but at the same time these are pretty normal preschooler activities.

Thanks.

Stride Rite exchanged a pair of short-lasting sneakers for us. Not a big deal; they're easy to work with. I suppose if you did this regularly though, they'd raise eyebrows.

My son wears these Plae sneakers now: https://www.goplae.com/shop/ty
They seem much more durable than Stride Rite. No rips, tears, can get tossed in the washing machine weekly, etc.

OP, I have two of those active preschoolers who love scooters, bikes, climbing. I have tried various brands, none of them last. Buy the cheapest sneakers and replace when they fall apart. Payless...
In winter proper boots work well and but for sneakers you can't find anything that will survive a boy like that for 3+ months.

PediPedi is tough, and so are the Plae sneakers from Nordstroms. My son has scuffed little holes but they are washable. When it is wet I make him wear rain boots.

Thanks for the tip, Plae is super adorable! Interchangable tabs are great

OP, you need to enforce the no dragging the feet. There are no shoes that your DS will not rip holes into (NONE). My DS does not play hard like that so I have not had this issue. However, DS's friend wears through his shoes like your DS. IMO you nee to buy cheap shoes until your DS doesn't do this anymore.

See that rubber toe? That's what you want.

We had bad luck with saucony for our daughter--they really didn't hold up nearly as well as stride rite, see kai run, or keens. She's hard on her shoes as well but the other brands have held up much better.

Saucony sneakers did not hold up well with us, and the Stride Rite branded sneakers did better, but still not as good as I'd like. I found this pair of Jumping Jacks to be pretty sturdy

That said, DS's shoes get replaced every 3 months because they're pretty beat at that point.

Saucany is a brand that is made by stride rite. They used to be a separate company and stride rite bought them. Not debating that can be different quality from the stride rite shoes, just wanted to inform.

On a bike?! That's a great way to lose a toe! I don't see how that is good for his feet.

It's good for babies to be barefoot. A preschooler who wears holes in his shoes in 2 weeks? Not at all.

Saucony suck--same thing happened to us. Just not as durable as the adult version. We had good luck with Asics and new balance.
