Do I really need a doctors note?

Anonymous
I'd need a bottle of water or two for a 3 hr meeting, if only for the needed bio breaks it would cause.

I'd get the note and tell him that you pawing at your vulva if you get a UTI will be much more distracting than any water bottle would be.

Have you been reprimanded for not paying attention during meetings?

Were you tasked with note taking, dazed off, and provided crummy notes?

If so, this rule was created to keep you on task (and sadly, everyone else has to suffer the consequences).

The problems you describe are unlikely related to water bottles. The punishment does not fit the crime. It might even be counterproductive.

I'm not making this up. I know someone who continuously was reprimanded for not paying attention during meetings where they were tasked as note taker (due to their admin position). This person most certainly was distracted by their drink. Drop the pen. Pick up the drink, sip, hold the drink, etc. Notes were incomplete.

LOL! Maybe you need to fire this person instead

I would start coughing and thereby distract everyone at least once during allergy season. Maybe you just do that a couple of times and mention that your throat is dry?

One of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

First, you need to raise your hand.

Second, you need a note from mommy. Notarized.

Then, and only then, do you get the special key.

Don't forget the giant plexiglass hall pass!

This has to be a joke, no company or manager would do this.

I also suspect there is a break within the 3 hour meeting.

Phones, laptops, and even food make sense. I don't bring any of those to most of my meetings. But I ALWAYS bring a drink. Sometimes two (coffee and water).

I'd die in a 3 hour meeting without water. I probably drink at least 8oz an hour.

Why do you drink so much?

I would get a doctor's note saying I have low blood pressure.

Find a new job. Or report this manager to HR

I'd send a polite email telling him that I had inquired with my doctor and he refused to write a note on principle because in his view denying anyone water when needed, whether or not they have a medical condition, is unhealthy.

I would not feel the least bit guilty for making this up. It is crazy to require employees to waste their personal physician's time with such a request and the fact that you would be kowtowing to this craziness by asking could alter your doctor's view of you.

Otherwise, I'd simply to get work with photoshop and forge a note. Again, I would not feel the least bit guilty about this, but would take a hit to my self-esteem for actually stooping to this guy's level.

Why haven't you found a new job, OP? I mean, seriously, you and your coworkers take this sh*t everyday?
