I'm 43 and I really like Girls and think that Lena Dunham is extremely talented. She has great insights into that stage of life for a particular type of person, and watching this show often makes me either nostalgic for that stage in life, or commiserating with the character for her bad choices having mad those same bad choices myself. Lena Dunham is no more shoved down people's throats than Gwyneth Paltrow or Jennifer Lawrence. |
As a student of literature, I'd say that is actually a pretty provocative way to present women, as neither goddess or nor minion, but as unique flawed and talented humans. |
How odd that you were moved to even post this. |
| I'm sure Lena Dunham is crying into her multi-million dollar HBO contract right now thinking of all of you anonymous posters who think she's 'not that talented.' And when her HBO contract gets soggy, she whips out her multi-million dollar book contract to soak up the tears. |
What does it say about her fan base? I think you are very narrow-minded and sad, like most of her critics |
| She's talented. Lena makes people think, she creates a dialogue, she's controversial, and she's insightful. You may not agree with what she writes, you may not like it, but she is talented. |
And funny! |
| I think she is a very talented writer and actress, and I find the show Girls a fresh, funny and smart show to watch, and I love that its characters are deeply flawed and real. I think a lot of people's angst about her and the show Girls is rooted in sexism which makes me very sad, because I suspect most of her critics are women. Partly people have less tolerance for less than beautiful stars (Lena is not unattractive imo, she just doesn't pander to using appearance for her characters), and also people find brashly funny women threatening for some reason - see: Lena, Sarah Silverman, Amy Schumer, etc. Women are their own worst enemies ... |
| Oh, and to echo a pp - I get why not everyone likes Girls, what I dont grt is why so much vitriol for it - I question much more why so many crappy and poorly written/acted shows are such successes. |
Cool story, bro. (p.s. your misogyny is showing) |
Wow, I'm sorry you hate yourself so much, PP. |
I think it's good for women, especially younger ones, to see a woman's body that isn't perfect. I agree it's a lot of nudity, but I remind myself how much I could've used a few different points of view growing up. |
| She is so hard to look at. |
So are you. |
How odd that you care so much. I agree with her. LD is so played out. Vile. |
