When I was your age I was a vocal Libertarian. What is not to like, everyone is free to make their own freedom. Everyone is free to fail. Let everyone free to do whatever they like as long as they don't hurt someone else. Right?
But as life took its toll, and as I advanced in the corporate hierarchy, I encountered many situations, in which corporations just screwed and stomped on people that did not have the resourcesw to fight back. When people have children and family to support they really can't just quit and go to the next job. When your health care is linked to a job, and you have a sick child, you can't just quit and go to the next job. When corporations pollute the environment to save a nickle, your cant really fight back. When gov devolves into an elite class of rich, entitled human beings, that can argue whatever is best for them, and then go home and sleep with their family, no regrets about how they helped or hurt, how can a moral person fight them? You think when you are young that you have faith in individuals but as you get older you will find that human beings can be very evil, that they are only out for their own self interest, and that a libertarian/conservative type gov is really another structure for elites to stomp on the poor. Good luck on your trip, it will probably take another 15 to 25 years, but life happens to everyone. |

OP, I get really annoyed at all of the lefties on this site too. They seem to be incapable of having a legitimate conversation.
For example: If you say you are "for the wall", then you are immediately barraged with attacks that you are a member of the klan and a misogynist. Go figure. Good luck! |

I wish you well, OP. While I don't agree with you politically, it's not really our political differences that have made some of your posts annoying. It's more the braggadocio and the self-important manner in which you announce your opinions and the way you think you have everything figured out. (BTDT! We were teenagers once, too!)
I tell you this because these are qualities that will annoy anyone -- even lots of people who agree with you -- and it would be in your interest to tone it down a bit and listen more. Because I'd like you to have a happy life and the way you're going, even if you find that perfect preppy conservative haven, you're going to still annoy a lot of people around you. (Say, your last name isn't Cruz, by any chance, is it?? - Ha ha, just kidding!) You obviously have an exciting time ahead of you, exploring new paths of political engagement in college. I hope you enjoy it. Just soften up a bit - not on your politics, I mean (even though I completely disagree with you), but in your manner. Make friends, not just allies. Good luck! |

That's because while there is room for discussion among reasonable people, even those who disagree about policy, the idea of a wall (a real, bricks and mortar wall) is extra stupid on multiple levels. |
