When to share that you are switching from public to private?

Just went through this last year. If your local public is considered a "good" school, be prepared for some rather unkind comments. I always viewed schools as a private choice and did not put much thought into where people have their kids enrolled. Well, that's not the case for everyone. Some will see your change as a repudiation of the public school, and thus a repudiation of their choice. They can be aggressively defensive of the PS, and very negative about yours. Especially if their PS selection is the only option they can afford. Just like getting engaged or a new job, not everyone will be happy for you.
