TV shows for a 16 month old

In addition to TV, you can also try bringing a sheet of stickers...my DC is that age and loves to peel off stickers and put them on things.

Ooooh stickers, yes.

Try showing him photos/videos on your phone too. My DD loves that.

Baby Signing Time DVDs are like baby crack.

Is the suggestion intended to keep your toddler from trying to remove the patch or is there some visual reason why watching a screen is advised?

Are you effing serious? Nothing would have made my 16 month old distracted for a whole hour like a TV/computer would. Especially if that's the only time you let him have screen time.

Not PP but maybe your kid is on the spectrum. Most children this young wouldn't be able to stay this focused for so long.

My son loved Sesame Street, blues clues and Elmo's world but blues clues was a favorite at that age. Even better than that he was obsessed with watching videos of himself on my phone!

I agree that a fun snack might be a good distraction too

Thanks for the armchair diagnosis.

+1

And, as much as I hate them, Baby Einstein dvds seem to keep younger toddlers in a trance.

Oh, shut up.

I feel like some of the shows mentioned might be too old for 16 months -- my 3 year old watches them. At 16 months, she loved the Little Baby Bum videos that several PPs have mentioned. Those are animated nursery rhymes - the animations are slow and easy to watch and my DD is still entranced by them. They have several, and some are 60 minutes long (but easy to stop earlier b/c there is a transition between songs). She also really liked the Baby Einstein DVDs -- we had a bunch of hand me downs from my brother's kids but you can also find full length videos (also about an hour) on Youtube.

Baby Signing Time (baby version is not on Netflix, you'll have to buy it, but worth every penny for my young toddler.)

Puffin Rock, on Netflix. Nice art animation and cute Irish accents.

Little Baby Bum is like baby crack.

My 16 month old is mesmerized by them. It's the only thing that will get her to stay still for more than a minute or two. T

Baby Einstein for sure. You can try some out on YouTube and then get DVDs if he likes them

Don't listen to these people. The doctor knows what he's talking about, and this is a special situation where you'll need the child to hold still. I'm one of the PPs who advised the LittleBabyBum videos - they are great for keeping my 16-month-old's attention. Also, not all doctors subscribe to the "no TV ever" before 2 thing, including my pediatrician. As with all things, moderation is key.

I posed the question. I'm not anti-tv at all, but I do have an active toddler who might stop playing for a couple minutes, but is no way sitting for an hour.

Yeah, my oldest would have watched but my younger two - no way. My son didn't care about tv until he was 3.5 and my 15 month old won't even glance at it, and not by any effort of my own to keep him away - he is in the room when his siblings watch.
