My middle school DD is transitioning from a school overseas where she wears uniforms everyday to DC, and is worried about fitting in. She really does not have many clothes, nor has developed a personal style, due to wearing uniforms all the time and a general indifference to clothing. What styles, brands of clothes do middle school girls wear? Are there any we should avoid that would negatively stereotype her with her new peers? Of course I understand that clothes are not the end all, and be all, but if I have to buy her a bunch of new warm clothes I might as well try to get stuff that helps her fit in... please don't judge.
We transitioned from overseas this summer and went through the same experience (going from uniforms to regular clothes; overseas vs America). First, we did not buy anything new until after school started. My daughter is into fashion, but her new friends are not - and the trends in America were different - so, after she got a look around, she settled on the typical leggings, boots, etc. Right now we mostly shop at Gap or Target, but I'm sure she'll want to go to Abercrombie and the like as she gets older.
Thanks, I just ordered her a few things (dark/basic/no overt labels) so she can have some warm clothes her first week or two. I decided to hold of on getting more. Especially the Doc Marten combat boots...
