Germantown schools

The schools would be Ronald McNair-Kingsview-Northwest.

How does Ronald McNair compare to Clooper Mill ES in academic performance and parental SES?

Better schools in Germantown are Mastunaga, Kingsview and Northwest. Avoid Seneca HS.

It's Seneca Valley High School, why should people avoid it, and what is the source of your information?

So what community should I be looking at to get into this zoning district? We know we want to be in Germantown, and we intend on staying through elem possibly middle school years, but in the right neighborhood I can see us there for high school too, otherwise we may go private route.

OP, when that PP says "better schools", what the PP really means is, "schools with fewer poor kids". If that's your definition of "better schools" too, then you should look in the parts of Germantown with the highest housing prices.

You can find the maps of the school zones here: http://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps.html

No, we just want our little one to be in a good elem school where English and reading are top priorities. We re not a high grossing income family (below 130 HHI) but we want to own in a good neighborhood that feeds into a good elem school and won't lose value on the home over a period of < 7 years.

We are not uppity people and would not prefer the nice condos going up in Rockville that would suit our needs to raise a family. We want the smaller community feel, but just in a good SES place where our child can have friends of similar background. I can't imagine a good parent not wanting that for their family.

Not the PP but they are in the news a lot for arrests, car accidents, deaths, gangs etc...

OP, as you say, I think that most parents -- even the poor parents at Clopper Mill ES -- want to send their children to good schools where English and reading are priorities.

As for the rest, since I don't know what specifically you mean by good school, good neighborhood, good SES, and friends of similar background, I can't make any suggestions.

Kind of like Wootton HS, eh?

Not pp, but if you like Seneca Hill move there. We live in Clopper mill zone and love our house neighborhood even though we wish the ES was better. The neighborhood just west of Seneca Hill isn't bad (North of Clopper, just east of great Seneca) but there are many other places.

OP try Germantown Elementary. I have one friend who moved across Great Seneca to get out of the Clopper Mill zone and she's been thrilled with Germantown.

There are great neighborhoods that feed into Strawberry Knoll and you would be closer in. Norhtwest HS is no better than Gaithersburg HS and the ES in Gaithersburg seem better overall-als there is more crime in Germantown.

But I see that Montgomery Village is a cess pool of gangs, constant foreclosures, and primarily low income. Can someone tell me more about that or counter that info?

Well, it's your choice, OP. Either Ganglandia, or Bumfuckistan (I live in Bumfuckistan), or WealthyWhiteopia.
