At 26, when I was in the military, I crossed over if you include annual bonus. I got out not too long thereafter, and the thing is, I haven't gone up all that much since. But we banked so much of what we made in our 20s that it's irrelevant at this point.

You're only 34! Dear God, stop worrying about what others think and focus on what you have accomplish. I don't know if you have children, but being a good parent is much more admirable than making a high income. I say this because I have a couple years on you, and have a different perceptive, a much more reasonable one.

hit it again at 25 with real estate income supplementing salary
hit it at 27 with salary alone
currently 37 and gs-14 with max ot=157k plus 14% bonus (yes some agencies still have bonuses) + passive income

I'm not a veteran, I never finished my bachelors degree for financial reasons, and I don't have an "in" that I'm aware of. That makes my odds somewhere around one in seven billion, right?

Here's a tip: Military Sealift Command in Norfolk is hiring a billion people right now at all grades. You just have to be a warm body willing to live in Norfolk.
