2104--oh thank god I thought I was the only person on DCUM who didn't like Obama. I hate the idea of socialism/communism but probably because I don't want the government to rule my life and I would like to have some freedom to actually keep my wages. |
yeah because it looks like this capitalism thing is really working out. |
And all he and Michelle got from the Queen was an autographed photo. |
Capitalism works just fine for me-I work hard and save my money and have little respect for people who whine that they need more from the government. |
Oh you mean like all the corporate lobbyists sucking up so they can get their share the stimulus package? |
So now that Obama got all badass on the Somali pirates with a Seal Team rescue, 3 shots and 3 kills, and the safe return of the hostage, are you going to give it up for The Man? |
Not the originally quoted poster, but my answer is resoundingly YES - the corporate welfare is as bad as individual welfare to me. |
Funny how the dead-ender 30% out there can't decide if Obama was too solicitous as to give a polite bow to one monarch, or that he wasn't gutless and craven enough as to not lay his hands on the Her Royaal Majesty The Queen Elizabeth The Second. Talk about some wild mood swings: these guys supported the worst, most uncouth, inappropriate, a-hole of a president for eight years, but now it's all "Oh, tut-tut. My word, The President of the United States should never speak first when talking to THE QUEEN... <...faint...>" Utter derangement... |
So you STILL have not provided your alternative communist utopian society. How has that worked out for Cuba and Venuzuela? |
(NP) Such an empty argument. If we are critical of the capitalism in the United States, that must mean we would prefer it to be like Cuba and Venezuela. Oh puh-lease -- That's not an argument a grownup makes. And to address the earlier point: I am a socialist. Obama is nowhere near being a socialist. It's important not to let your critical thinking ability atrophy. |
I would like to see all of those who complain about "socialism" put their money where their mouths are by burning their Medicare and Social Security cards and by pledging to ever accept funds from either of those sources. Or unemployment should you happen to get laid off. Please also withdraw your children from public schools and in no event should you call 911 or your local police or fire department in the event of an emergency. Please only travel on privately built roads and it might also be a good idea for you to dig your own well for water and go off the electric grid.
Seriously, I bet half of the people with these complaints couldn't accurately define socialism (without resorting to Wikipedia) if their lives depended on it. |
all my friends who are socialists laugh at the idea that a) obama is a socialist and b) we are anywhere close to becoming a socialist country. worry not republican fearmongers! |
Hmm--I actually turned down unemployment two times because I didn't want to weaken my resolve and felt if I had to I could waitress and I would have no problem if we completely got rid of both SS and medicaid so sign me up to have those two programs dumped and only kept for people who are truly and I do mean truly poor and/or have some kind of disability that renders them unable to work. |
As for the Seals--have no problem with government money toward the military--hope they weren't the folks that Obama voted to cut off funding to prior to be elected president. |
I truly appreciate your sentiment here but here's the problem with providing those benefits only to the truly poor -- they lose political backing. Because Social Security and Medicare apply to everyone that means that everyone has a stake in them continuing and politicians, whether they should or not, will continue to support them. Things like Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) lack the support needed to make them truly effective (e.g., adequate job training and day care) because they are perceived by many non-poor voters as going to the unworthy poor. |
