I kind of love the mental image of a surly teen shipping for'edgy' clothes with her mom.....at Nordstrom.

Yes, very edgy.

When's the last time you were n Nordstrm? The Topshop in Nordstom is a very popular and trendy stand-alone store in London and Paris right now.

+1. Clearly PPs are not fashion forward themselves.

What's edgy about "very popular and trendy"?

Considering OP mentioned Zara and H&M, I imagine her daughter is not quite as edgy as some posters may think. Those stores are way more in line with Topshop than Garage.

I don't think the point is what adult fashionistas think about the particular store. OP said "not Vinyard Vines." She's looking for the anti-prep. This can be found at some commonly available stores, yes?

OP here - we learned there's a Topshop store in Springfield (who knew?) so we're going to stop there this weekend.

As for how I describe edgy -- this is the sort of outfit DD would wear (but this is not her and she does't have this hairstyle):

Good for your daughter that she is comfortable in her own skin and doesn't need to wear Lululemon capris, Uggs, and a slouchy sweater. All while holding a Starbucks.

I was a lemming in HS, and as an almost 40 year old who now doesn't care about what others think, I wish I had that confidence in high school.

I'm in Paris right now and see lots of Topshop clothes.

Something is wrong with this post. The poster is in Paris (presumably on vacation and pretty impressed with herself) and she's posting on DCUM? Who posts on DCUM on a Paris vacation. There are plenty of things to do there. Go enjoy Paris rather than documenting your trip on social media

I am 34 and wear top shop (to work, too!) is this good or bad?

OP the store in Springfield is great, much better selection than Nordstrom. But I think it may be a bit mature for an early HSer.

Of course maybe I'm biased because I am more than twice your DD's age and wear it to the office??

Just because her daughter wears edgy clothes doesn't mean she isn't trying to fit in.

It's definitely marketed for teens and twenties. I would hardly call any of it mature.

I have a FB acquaintance who is currently on vacation in Paris with her family. Constant pictures and selfies of their trip. You're in Paris! Why do people feel the need to document their vacations in real time? I love seeing the pictures after the fact, but during the trip? It's so shallow.

OMG my 14 yo DD won't carry a Starbucks bag even. She hates anything associated with prep or "mass public approval" her term.

For those objecting to posts from people on vacation: if you don't like, scroll past. We post for our elderly parents who don't live near us and enjoy knowing what we are up to. tacky, or just family oriented? Maybe it is not about you.

(Plus, you have down time when traveling with kids)

How nice for you.

The image above is not a million miles away from my aesthetic as a teen.

I thrifted a LOT. My girlfriends and I would take a whole day and hit ten thrift stores. We'd spend $15 and have 3 new outfits.

I'm talking about the poster on DCUM humble bragging about and posting while on her Paris trip. Do your elderly parents read DCUM? I get the FB thing, although I also think that's braggy and ridiculous (really? the family can't wait until she gets back to see the pics, they must be uploaded instantaneously?) that makes more sense to me.
