Somerset ES putting in turf field

And the Potomac ES completion date has already been pushed back to 2020.

How many years was the Seneca Valley HS project moved back, one year per year, year after year after year? MCPS does not have enough capital funds to do everything that needs to be done.

Has it been moved back? I thought the first formal date was recently given as 2018, which it currently remains--it's also under capacity. Potomac ES is over capacity, was originally scheduled for 2018 (now 2020) and is housed in a building that is 20+ years older than Seneca. So, I'm not sure what point you're making? The person who originally mentioned Potomac was using its pathetic condition to illustrate the point that the county is not favoring the "rich" schools--you disagree?

I wouldn't call it public land so much as community land. Beside most people on here and in the greater area have never been to Somerset, know anybody who lives there or could find it on a map. Why should they have any input on the ongoings there? It isn't like they are subsidizing it when it is really Somerset subsidizing so many others.

What is the difference between "public land" and "community land"? The government owns the land. That makes it public land.

Why should anybody have any input on the on-goings there? Because it's public land.

I thought that the poster was using the condition of Potomac ES to illustrate the point that the county is disfavoring the schools in rich areas.

And yes, there have been many delays for the Seneca Valley HS project. It was originally supposed to be FINISHED in August 2016.

I would worry about the cancer risk, but I understand the butlers carry their charges around for recess.

I am worried about the cancer risk to the butlers!

That was my first thought. What a terrible idea for an ES.

It's probably the most dilapidated elementary school in MCPS. It has continually been put at the bottom of the list for improvements because the county would get a earful from the same people who complain when a PTA raises money for their own student body.

I'm a NP.

Not jealous at all. I much prefer the grass at our school, and honestly would be very concerned about the safety of artificial turf on kids' fields.

Until it's proven completely safe, I'm more than happy to let the rich folks have the turf fields.

I agree; if I were a parent at that school, I'd be really concerned about the safety risks.

How do you know that artificial turf fields are safe?

Why should PTAs be allowed to make such important decisions for our schools, parents, kids...?

Can someone confirm please that we can safely continue to walk our dogs on artificial turf?

I don't understand why you would walk your dog on artificial turf? Are you the owner of Jack the Bulldog or Handsome Dan?
