| WaPost reporting that Somerset ES PTA and foundation raising $550K to install a turf field at the elementary school. That is simply ridiculous and is sickening. |
| Don"t those cause cancer? I thought that was the latest buzz. |
| Yep, the MoCo Board of Ed just approved it. So much for being equity warriors. Somerset gets an artificial turf field and other schools have dirt patches. |
| My kids have to attend class in a portable. Somerset gets a half million dollar turf field. Damn you, MCPS. |
The article says they are raising the money for it. MCPS is not funding any of it. |
Here we go. Another liberal rumor. |
Um - liberals are usually the people quoting science and conservatives are railing against vaccines and climate change and evolution. If we want to stick to pejorative stereotypes, that is... |
| It isn't just MCPS. DD plays soccer at Key Elementary in NW DC and they clearly raised funds and have a crazy playground and field. |
Our sports parent neighbors, liberal and conservative, have been talking about this. I don't think it is a political thing unless soccer is a political party. |
What do you think MCPS should do about it? The money is coming from the Somerset ES PTA. |
| It says they will raise the money in 2 years. Corporate donors or just wealthy parents opening check books? Clearly not a bake sale and a car wash. |
It's Somerset ES. Here is the service area map for Somerset ES: http://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/SomersetES.pdf |
|
Who cares that they will have a turf field?
Gaithersburg HS does as well as other schools in the County. It will be available to MSI and other sport groups for practice permits so it may benefit you. I don't understand the problem. |

The official enrollment for 2014-2015 was 565. So $550,000 among 565 children is a mere $973 per child. (It's ARTIFICIAL turf, by the way. Just plain "turf" is grass.) |
