Basti is often used as a nickname for Sebastian in Latin America. We know an absolutely adorable pre-schooler Basti and a total hottie Basti who just graduated from high school.

Other German nicknames are Bastian (BAS-tee-ahn) and Sepp.

The Sebastian in my daughter's class goes by Sebastian.

YES! The nicknames I've heard as "Sebas" (often used by Spanish speakers, I think this is a great one), and Bastian (like the Neverending Story!) which is actually where I love the name from and it's my favorite boy name.
