Wilson principal search

Was any of this taken into account when they unanimously "voted" for this candidate if the rumors are true?

Where is she from? DC?

Me too. The last thing Wilson needs is a Principal who has no idea how DCPS works.

The school and its students can't afford to wait a few years while someone goes through the learning process.

Funny. In the Janney principal thread, posters are saying how important a nationwide search is.

Will there be time for a PhD while running a school like Wilson?

Will people understand selecting a principal is not done by voting...the panel is just a mere formality. The person who's selected has been vetted through the Chancellor and her team before being presented to the group.

I would feel better if she were purshing her PhD in how to make education more rigorous rather than "urban education" -- whatever that is.

Well, that was one person and he/she sounded like a moron. Janney had a principal from MoCo who was a disaster because she had no idea how to handle DCPS central office. Perhaps things are more functional downtown these days but it is a legitimate concern. If the principal has an experienced staff in place then these concerns can be mitigated.

Yes--important to clarify that this group is advisory only. But more than a formality: when our school hired its last principal, the advisory group rejected the first panel sent by the central office and got a second panel. So central office does listen to this group.

Sounds like maybe she is still working on her dissertation. Good for her that she us still studying.
She also has a son who seems to be just about high school age. Wonder if he will go to wilson. I hope so, it will connect her more to the school.

Classic DCUM here - asking a question that can't be answered by the relevant people about an event that has not yet happened....

I guess it is also classic DCUM to not read the thread before replying. From the third post in this thread:

Wilson Twitter account tweeted the following yesterday:
"PTSO meeting: about 20 people interviewed 3 finalists today for next Wilson principal. Committee recommended 1 candidate unanimously."

It is hard going from a pretty functional central office to a dysfunctional, almost feudal one.

Right. And unless you somehow have knowledge that one of those 20 people is on this board, and they answer in a non-anonymous fashion, your question is stupid and unanswerable. That is my point.

Never mind that you thought the meeting hadn't happened yet, a question may be unanswerable, but not stupid. In any case, if we eliminated questions that someone thought were stupid, we wouldn't have any questions left. Also, if someone was at the meeting, I'm not sure why they couldn't answer anonymously.

I'd love to know how the DCPS central office is, in your opinion, "dysfunctional" and "almost feudal". I work there. Can you give me some examples?
