Wilson principal search

Give her a chance, people. She wants to focus on urban education - that's great. She clearly came from an affluent school district - also great, it means she has experience with advanced learners with a lot of outside support. It's impossible to do a national search for a candidate who also knows the intricacies of how DCPS bureaucracy works. If you get someone from another urban district, maybe s/he will be leading a school that is not "successful" by many people's standards, but actually might be quite good. If you choose someone from an urban charter school, the conspiracy theorists will come out in full force. If you get someone from a suburban school, maybe s/he won't be as familiar with the effects of urban poverty on education, or maybe she will - she just landed there and got experience running a big, successful public school. Sometimes principals irritate some of the parents (remember Melissa Kim?), sometimes they irritate the teachers (remember Cahall?). There are a lot of stakeholders in a place like Wilson. Sounds to me like she has the experience and desire to take it on. I can't imagine it's an easy decision to uproot your family to come to a DCPS HS. Seriously, give her a chance before you decide she can't handle it.
