ratings take SOL scores and compare them to other schools statewide. Very important.

ha ha .. half the schools don't ever care about SOL's

Here are average 2014 SAT scores for some high schools, ranked by greatschools ranking ( shows, I think much important for college admissions)

10
Thomas Jefferson High for Science and Technology - 2219

9
Langley High School - 1865
Madison High School - 1788
Marshall High School - 1774
Robinson Secondary - 1683

8
Chantilly High School - 1710
Lake Braddock Secondary - 1693
Mclean High School - 1819
Oakton High School - 1802
West Springfield High School - 1675
Woodson High School - 1798

7
Fairfax High School - 1635
Centreville High School - 1658

6
Westfield High School - 1684

5
Herndon High School - 1696
South Lakes High School - 1676

Useless Greatschool rankings,,,

Herndon High School - 1696 has better average SAT scores than Robinson Secondary - 1683, Lake Braddock Secondary - 1693
but, why is Herndon High School - 5 but Robinson Secondary is 9 and Lake Braddock Secondary 8 ???

South Lakes High School is 5 according to Greatschool ?

All well above the national average.

Any typical upper middle class fcps family will likely be perfectly successful at any of these school pyramids.

I would not mark any of these high achieving high schoops off your list and instead focus on home, community, school culture (middle and high school), elementary size and focus, and quality of life issues.

Academically, any of these high schools are exceptional and you don't need to limit yourself to four schools to achieve a high quality education for your kids.

LOL you are an idiot, let's cling to 20 year old cliche's, are you elderly by chance?

It's like someone saying STAY AWAY from madison or oakton because McLean is soooo much better. The truth is when you review SATs, SOLs etc... the differences between the pyramids of madison, oakton, marshall, mclean are minuscule and certain schools are stronger than others in math, english etc... should we tell

For example, Marshall is much better than Oakton and McLean, but the rest of the scores are very close.

Face it, prices for real estate are higher in ALL of the above school pyramids because they are very good. It's no accident you moron.

This is from someone who doesn't live in a Marshall pyramid but does have a clue.

Granted, the PP was being jerky, but your reaction is even more over-the-top.

Signed,

Someone who recognizes the poster who owns rentals in the Marshall pyramid, but doesn't "live" there.

Wow, how rude and uncalled for. No need to be so nasty and what's with the name calling?

Since oakton was mentioned, and I live in oakton, I will say that the schools here are wonderful. The families are very involved and very nice. We are very happy here. Good luck op.

I think it's under the radar, but Stenwood is a fantastic little neighborhood school.

It was mentioned previously in the thread. Not that you can't mention it again, but it was already on the radar.

To what HS does Stenwood feed?
