Stokes vs. Lee

In 16 years Stokes still has some flaws... no school is perfect

I am a current stokes parent and I do not agree...

I know a number of families leaving Stokes for "better" options...

For Lee? I find that hard to believe. The OP's question is Stokes vs. Lee, not Stokes vs "better" options.

We turned down stokes to stay at a non-immersion HRCS. Just not all that impressed with lack of admin professionalism, community feel, seemed so disorganized and last-minute. Also have heard from current and former parents about shaming style of discipline in K rooms. So glad we didn't switch.

I went to both open houses and would choose Lee over Stokes (and Montessori over immersion programs too, fyi). Lee was peaceful, organized, calm. Stokes was so loud and chaotic, I left not knowing how kids concentrate there. The PK3 class is attached to the gym, so you had half the kids at desks doing a lesson, the other half in the "playroom" and an older grade in the gym. It was crazy! Wasn't impressed at all by Stokes, especially compared to the other dual language/immersion programs.

ps. For what it's worth we got into Lee, I'm very happy.
pps. just to answer this question that comes up all the time, I choose montessori over immersion because i think creating good learning and work habits first is more important that becoming bilingual. I was not raised in a bilingual environment or with Spanish until high school, and after a few years of living abroad and traveling I am now fluent in Spanish.

We're at Lee, kids there have come from many other HRCS or have been offered places at them and turned them down. Don't remember anyone from Stokes. It wouldn't surprise me at all. To some Lee is a "better" option, but it all depends on what you are looking for for your child.

Dear. Many people leave HRCS for other HRCS, Improving DCPS and JKLM etc. There is always a round robin. People are playing lottery all the time and many leave for each other's schools. No reflection of departing school or arriving school, just a reflection of the madness that is DC schools. Don't use it as a bragging point. Especially after only being open for 8 months.

I'm a Lee parent and it makes me laugh. We definitely have some enthusiastic parents! I'll take that over apathetic 95% of the time.

I am well aware of that, my "dear". In fact I was making exactly that point - its not a brag, but a fact. PP expressed disdain that Lee could be a "better" option, but the reality is that what is one person's "better" option is someone else's "safety" (or 5, or 6 or 12th choice).

There is boosting, but they're doing a lot of tearing down of other schools mostly.

No not mostly. Only one or two posts here even say anything negative about any other school. Agree that Lee parents can be a bit enthusiastic in this forum (though perfectly normal in person).
